Commission and Division
"Do you know me?"
Sulu looked around with interest.
I realized that, without me noticing, an area around me had been cleared away.
The innkeeper was yawning behind the counter, almost falling asleep.
"Wandering Knight of mysterious origins, the one who has repeatedly sniped the Duke of Wolf Castle's pursuers, a powerful Wizard —someone has long heard of your name..."
The middle-aged man in the gray robe said expressionlessly.
"Goodwill from the West Territory? You come from the West, are you one of the ' Duke of Blood's' men?"
Sulu raised an eyebrow. Ever since defeating Silver Eye ' group, the further south they went, the less pressure they faced from pursuers. After leaving the Northern Territory, they almost disappeared.
He also sensed the assistance of a hidden force.
Isn't it a bit too hasty to jump out now?
"If you want to know, please come with someone."
A smile appeared on the face of the middle-aged man in the gray robe as he turned and left the inn.
"Interesting."
Sulu smiled, got up, and followed.
The two made their way through the increasingly crowded streets and alleys, the Gray Robe in front of them clearly familiar with the area.
He arrived at what appeared to be a slum, entered a small hut, opened the floorboards to reveal a passageway leading underground. "Please!"
Sulu's Inspiration flowed outward, probing into the deep darkness, and he went inside.
The tunnel wasn't long, and the man in gray, holding a torch, led the way.
After walking about a hundred meters, we came to a wooden wall.
"Sulu Potter! Would you be willing to become my knight? And receive land and glory?"
A muffled voice came from behind the wooden wall, as if someone was speaking against it; it was a woman.
'Why do people in this world keep tempting others with titles and fiefdoms, as if they all think everyone is a dog and will love this bone?'
Sulu couldn't quite understand.
But anyone can act. His breathing became slightly heavy, and he said in a hoarse voice, "But my ideal is not just a knight's manor..."
In this world, hereditary nobles are at the very bottom of the nobility, and many high-ranking nobles don't even consider themselves true nobles.
Only hereditary barons are the undisputed formal nobles!
Their fiefdoms are much larger, allowing them to train two to five full-fledged knights and form their own knightly orders!
"I like ambitious people..."
The woman behind the wooden plank was silent for a moment, then suddenly chuckled, "However, as a high-ranking Wizard, perhaps even Silver Knight... you certainly have the qualifications to aspire to the rank of Baron... and even Viscount is not out of the question."
As if to prove its persuasiveness, a tulip badge inlaid with a ruby was passed through the gap.
"As expected, he is the Duke of Blood of the West Territory!"
Sulu sighed. Having read so many books in Wolf Castle, he naturally had some understanding of the kingdom's great nobles.
Throughout the entire kingdom, under the royal family, there were only four dukedoms, each ruling a territory in the four cardinal directions.
The Blood Tulip is another name for that Western grand duke.
"Could it be that the kingdom is about to experience another civil war?" Sulu sighed. "The lady knew I was at odds with the Duke of Wolf Castle, yet she still protected me. She must have a request for something?"
"Yes... The eldest son of the Duke of Wolf Castle, Gran, will soon be coming to the Royal Capital to marry Princess Messiah Philetrin III. Since you have already made enemies with Wolf Castle, why not be more ruthless? If you can accomplish this, I assure you that a baronship and a castle fief will both be yours."
Her words were seductive.
'So it's another power struggle among the great nobles... I have a feeling that even if I complete the mission, I won't be alive to collect the money. I'll probably be silenced...'
Sulu rolled his eyes inwardly.
The other party arrived quickly and left just as fast, immediately departing after Sulu said he needed to think about it.
She looks like a noblewoman or socialite from the Royal Capital, the kind who socializes every day and can't stay away from her for long.
"Someone will escort you out!"
The Gray Robe brought Sulu to the ground and then turned to take his leave.
"Your name?"
Sulu stared at him with great interest, then suddenly asked a question.
"Nameless One."
The figure in gray quickly disappeared into the gaps and shadows in the street.
"I always felt... this guy was more suited to be Assassin than me..."
Sulu shook his head and walked out of the slum. There were many pedestrians here, almost blocking the street.
Blacksmith shops, bakeries, clothing stores... stalls selling all sorts of trinkets, pieced together in a scattered fashion, along with streetwalkers soliciting customers and thieves with golden fingers roaming the streets and alleys, instantly create a vivid picture of the Royal Capital.
How much is this pie?
He saw a food stall selling pies made of flour and fresh meat, baked in an oven until slightly charred, with a fragrant aroma.
Five copper coins.
The red-haired vendor, wearing an apron, chuckled.
"For you!"
Sulu casually paid the money, took the wrapped pie, took a bite, and thought it tasted really good.
Suddenly, I sensed many eyes on me.
There were several children sucking their fingers by the roadside, staring intently at the pies and purses in their hands.
If such a kid isn't supervised by adults and is controlled by a local gang, it's only natural that he'll become a pickpocket with three hands and golden fingers.
Every day, countless people lose their purses because of this, and of course, some children who are caught lose their hands.
"Even in the Royal Capital, there are bound to be poor people like this..."
Looking at their sallow and emaciated appearance, with their ribs clearly visible, Sulu couldn't help but sigh, suddenly feeling listless.
It's also within Dragon City.
A secret gathering somewhere.
"Tell me... are you content with having no talent, no qualifications, and no chance of becoming a knight or Wizard?"
A short man in black robes roared, his words seemingly possessing a powerful and seductive force.
"You are poor, you are lowly, you have had everything taken from the nobles... yet you have to greet them with smiles, all because you have no power!"
The little man suddenly uttered a strange note. "Flame!"
A flame the size of an egg appeared in his hand and blazed fiercely. "But now... the opportunity is right before your eyes. As long as you take the potion, you can gain extraordinary power just like me!"
"It can forge honor, help you break through the limitations of knighthood, or become Wizard, mastering the power of magic..."
The short man took out a bottle of magic potion. "Only one hundred gold coins!"
"I want it."
A middle-aged man stepped forward, quickly pulled out a deerskin money pouch, and completed the transaction amidst the stunned expressions of the onlookers.
Not far away, Ham and Yorn watched this scene and sighed simultaneously, "Laf has changed! And he's lying!"
The potion only grants ordinary people the qualification to learn Words of Arrogance; they still need to systematically learn the language.
"And... that person is definitely not poor; poor people can't come up with that much money!" Yorn said angrily.
This small group of three eventually split up after gaining power.
