Half an hour later.
Inside a private room at a café.
Dora gazed at Sulu with admiration. "Sulu, I had no idea you were so amazing!"
Thinking back to what had just happened, the reporter's eyes shone. She wished she could give Sulu a private interview. "You're... well, just as amazing as my sister!"
In the alley behind the bar, he had taken down five or six burly men with his bare hands.
Only her violent sister could rival that kind of ferocity.
"It was nothing!"
Sulu was telling the truth. They really were a bunch of weaklings who hadn't even given him a shred of experience.
Maybe killing them all would have earned him some experience, but how could he do that in front of Dora the reporter? Was he supposed to kill her afterward to keep her quiet?
His moral compass had already taken a beating, and his standards had kept slipping, but he hadn't sunk that low.
Sulu took a moment to examine his conscience, then sipped his coffee and speared a grilled sausage to replenish the energy he'd burned. "What about you, Ms. Dora? Why were the gangsters chasing you?"
He guessed that her professional instincts had gotten her into trouble.
"Well... our newspaper received a tip about a meat magnate in Posi Port. I secretly snuck into his factory. You have no idea how awful it was... Pork was thrown directly onto the floor, sewage was everywhere, and there were no quality controls or purification processes at all... And the rats! Do you know what they do if the workers find a dead rat? They throw it right into the grinder to make sausages!"
Dora condemned them furiously, her cheeks flushed with anger. "Those heartless capitalists should all be hanged!"
*I want to hang you
