Chapter 64: The Cemetery
It was a cemetery.
It lay outside Posi Port, on a small hill almost entirely covered by densely packed marble tombstones.
"May the dead rest in peace, and the living find serenity!"
Beside the gate guarded by two stone angels at the cemetery entrance, two lines of inscription had been carved.
Sulu looked up at the sky.
It was already pitch-black, with only the stars scattered across the heavens and the enormous moon casting silver light.
Generally speaking, to advance as a Medium... one had to keep honing one's abilities. And a city's cemetery was usually located in the suburbs...
In that sense, his aimless wandering earlier had indeed been influenced by some hidden longing of the Medium.
The cemetery gates were already closed, and a faint light shone from the wooden hut where the gravedigger lived.
Sulu didn't disturb him. Instead, he climbed over the side wall.
He wasn't there to do anything wrong, but it was still best not to get caught.
In the Federation, digging up graves and stealing corpses were both serious crimes! Some medical students did it in secret, though, and some even used corpses to pay their tuition.
Sulu wasn't interested in corpses. He was interested in Necro-Spirits! Wandering Souls!
"According to the religious texts of this world, after believers die, their souls are guided by angels and ascend to the Divine Kingdom of the god they worshipped... As for nonbelievers, their souls automatically go to the Spirit World..."
Mediums studied spirits and the Spirit World, so Sulu knew very well that they all went to the same place.
"The Spirit World is the final destination of all spirits. But some souls linger in the world of the living after death because of lingering attachments, resentment, and other such reasons.
