Background
Wei Zhong began as a spirit farmer working Yan Family Spirit Fields. He brought Yan Yuan from the mortal world and led him into cultivation, but Yan Yuan later attached himself to a Yan Family branch and plotted to kill his former master for resources. Wei Zhong acted first, killing Yan Yuan and the accompanying robbers rather than wait for the threat to mature 1 8.
His initial aptitude was a five-element spiritual root, inferior even to Yan Yuan’s four-element root. He compensated through exceptional spell talent, painstaking cultivation, wealth accumulation, and a system that allowed him to trade a drop in cultivation for additional lifespan 1 12. This lifespan-based method remained central to his advancement, allowing him to survive dangerous periods, fuel the Years Dao Method, and recover from realm regression 125 225 365.
To prevent enemies from tracing his origin, Wei Zhong repeatedly changed identities and appearances. After leaving Mangyuan Prefecture, he abandoned the Chu Zhong identity, settled at Cloud Xia Island, and built a reputation as a Second-Order Pill Master among rogue cultivators 70. His later status as a Fourth-Order Artifact Refiner and pill master brought him into the Cloud Gathering Commerce, where he eventually became one of its six special seat elders 170 237.
After reaching the Spirit World, he secured recognition as a direct disciple of the Five Elements Immortal Sect’s Crimson Sun Hall. The identity gave his businesses protection while he expanded Spirit Pearl trade, cultivated spirit plants, refined artifacts, and prepared for higher realms 355 361.
Appearance
Wei Zhong’s appearance changes with his cultivation state and disguises. Early in the story, he is visibly gray-haired and presents himself as a harmless old spirit farmer; later, he is described as dashing and handsome when appearing publicly as Grandmaster Wei 2 152.
- Frequently alters his bone structure, aura, clothing, and facial appearance through disguises 2 74.
- Often conceals his presence so completely that nearby cultivators fail to notice him 435.
- In battle, commonly manifests black water armor over his robes 164.
- Has cold, sword-like brows and a calm expression even while enduring tribulation 475.
Personality
Wei Zhong is cautious, patient, and intensely practical. He prefers secluded cultivation, concealed identities, and carefully prepared contingencies over public confrontation. Even when operating profitable businesses or holding prestigious positions, he avoids attracting attention that might threaten his long-term security 25 350 351.
He is also willing to act decisively once danger becomes unavoidable. Yan Yuan’s betrayal, hostile cultivators, Demon Dragons, and Xunyang Zi all meet with swift retaliation when they threaten him or his goals 8 166 291. His caution is therefore based on a realistic assessment of strength rather than unwillingness to fight 448.
Despite his guarded nature, Wei Zhong supports people close to him. He provides Xie Linghua with cultivation resources after her failed breakthrough, works with Ling Ziwei in mutual trust, and assists allies through alchemy, artifact crafting, and combat 80 92 199.
