Background / History

When Wei Zhong first arrived in the Spirit World, Sand Crane Gate was one of Fa Quan City's three major local powers. It had three Spirit Transformation cultivators and a Void Refinement Old Ancestor; Jiang Changyu guarded the local Ascension Platform and attempted to recruit newly ascended cultivators into the sect. 279

The sect later joined the siege of Guangji City and suffered a catastrophic reversal. Its Old Ancestor, Lai Rongzhi, had refined his own body into a Sixth Order Corpse Puppet in preparation for a Heavenly Tribulation. Corpse Qi eroded his consciousness, and he ultimately slaughtered allies and enemies alike, contaminating Guangji City and devastating Sand Crane Gate's forces. Several Void Refinement cultivators later killed him, while the sect's headquarters was seized by other factions. 294 295

By the time Wei Zhong returned to the sect's territory, Sand Crane Gate had been reduced to a weakened Spirit Transformation force whose remaining lands were divided among outside groups. Jiang Changyu accepted Wei Zhong—then using the identity of Five Colors Daoist—as a direct disciple after he offered to help reclaim the sect's territory in exchange for a suitable Spirit Ground. 295

The sect faced continued pressure from the Crimson Finch Sect, the Mystic Sword Sect, the Le Family, and the Peach Fragrance Pavilion. Wei Zhong's defeat of Ao Wei, his occupation of the Sixth Order Spirit Ground, and his later use of True Seals on Jiang Changyu and Bao Xinzheng placed Sand Crane Gate effectively under his control. 298 306

Guangji City Disaster

Sand Crane Gate participated in the campaign against Peach Fragrance Pavilion at Guangji City. Lai Rongzhi's uncontrolled Corpse Puppet body released Corpse Qi across the battlefield, inflicting severe losses on every side and leaving the sect's own headquarters vulnerable to occupation. 295 301

The disaster made Peach Fragrance Pavilion one of Sand Crane Gate's principal enemies. While the Mystic Sword Sect could withstand the pavilion's retaliation, the weakened Sand Crane Gate feared that only a few Spirit Transformation cultivators would be enough to destroy it. 301

Crimson Finch Sect Crisis

Ao Wei of the Crimson Finch Sect captured Jiang Changyu and Bao Xinzheng while pursuing revenge for his junior sister's death. Wei Zhong intervened, defeated the late-stage Spirit Transformation cultivator within a Thunder-Fire Barrier, and captured his Nascent Soul. 296 298

Le Family Pressure

The Le Family exploited Sand Crane Gate's weakness by demanding a harsh Spirit Contract and attempting to include its Sixth Order Spirit Ground. Le Shiyuan entered the corpse-contaminated ground and was injured by Wei Zhong's array and Corpse Poison, provoking further conflict with the Le Family. 302

After outside forces withdrew, Wei Zhong established a Cave Dwelling in the restored Sixth Order Spirit Ground and became the sect's decisive authority. 306

Defense Against Intruders

During Wei Zhong's Void Refinement Thunder Tribulation, Sand Crane Gate entered martial law under Jiang Changyu's orders. The Void Refinement thief Du Liang nevertheless infiltrated the sect, forcing Dead Shadow to confront him before Le Lin and Wei Yuesheng pursued the retreating intruder. 319

Development Under Wei Zhong

• Wei Zhong gave Jiang Changyu the successfully refined Gathering Essence Marvelous Pill and ordered Sand Crane Gate to sell it throughout the Hundred Abundance Spirit Domain. The pill's scarcity drew a surge of cultivators and Spirit Stones to the sect. 329
• Over the following centuries, Wei Zhong improved the pill's refinement success rate to 80%, while the sect's pill, Spirit Pearl, and Magical Artifact businesses expanded. 331
• Jiang Changyu formally passed leadership to Yan Yong before his death. Bao Xinzheng later relinquished his True Seal and departed for the Netherworld Rift. 331
• Sand Crane Gate surpassed the Le Family and the declining Mystic Sword Sect, becoming the strongest nearby Void Refinement force despite Wei Zhong's limited interest in personally managing its affairs. 327 331
