The Unsocial Newt
Dorset, a lush forest.
This place is sparsely populated, with only a beautiful wooden house nestled in the center of the forest, where Newt Scamander, a renowned expert on Wizarding World Fantastic Beasts, lives.
At dawn, a loud explosion shattered the tranquility of the forest.
Not far away, a Augurey peeked out from a tree, and several strange-looking beetles crawled out from several tree holes and lined up to crawl into another tree hole.
Dobby nervously surveyed its surroundings. When it first arrived, it inexplicably sensed a danger, a feeling that made it instinctively want to flee and run far away.
Fortunately, it disappeared quickly, as if it had never existed.
Kyle led it along a cobblestone path, knocked on the door, and entered the cabin.
Newt and Tina had already received advance notice and were waiting in the room.
"Darling, is this the House-elf you mentioned in your letter?" Tina asked, looking at the two of them.
"Hello, Your Excellency, my name is Dobby, and I am a free House-elf," Dobby said with a bow.
"Hello, Dobby, it's nice to meet you." Tina smiled.
These words excited Dobby he immediately bowed deeply, his long nose almost touching the floor.
Tina did not refuse Kyle's offer to bring a House-elf.
Just as he said in his letter, Newt is indeed quite old, and having another helper wouldn't be bad.
But Newt himself doesn't think so.
He felt he was perfectly capable of taking care of those Fantastic Beasts and didn't need any help at all.
Unfortunately, he had no say in the family; Tina never asked for his opinion from beginning to end.
And there he is, still sulking... though it's pointless to do anything about it.
The atmosphere at their first meeting was fairly amicable. Tina stood up and walked over to Dobby.
"I agree to hire you; the job is to take care of some rather difficult Fantastic Beasts."
"No problem, Dobby has taken care of Swallow-tailed Dog and peacocks before."
Swallow-tailed Dog?
Peacock?
Tina raised an eyebrow and glanced at Kyle. "Didn't you tell it anything beforehand?"
"I did," Kyle said, shrugging, "But it was too excited to listen."
"Never mind..."
Tina waved her hand, Newt naturally opened the box and placed it on the ground.
"Come with me, let me show you around first," she said to Dobby. "This job might not be what you expect. Decide whether you want to stay after you've seen it."
Tina stepped into the box.
Dobby was initially somewhat dismissive, even feeling that he was being looked down upon.
It's just taking care of Fantastic Beasts, right? It's very experienced. Besides, what can such a small box hold? At most, it can only hold kittens or puppies.
Its previous owner's Swallow-tailed Dog, would bite it every time, but it still managed to complete a series of tasks such as feeding, bathing, and grooming smoothly.
Dobby didn't think any animal could be fiercer than that Swallow-tailed Dog.
These two people are so kind; they even treat it with respect. The animals they keep must be very docile too...
"Oh!"
Just then, Dobby followed Tina into the box.
In less than a second, it was so frightened that it jumped up, then fell heavily to the ground, its short legs tumbling and scrambling as it crawled and scrambled to hide in a corner.
It was that same terrifying feeling I had at the door before... and this time it was even stronger!
Looking at the countless Fantastic Beasts around him, Dobby felt a wave of dizziness and almost fainted.
Especially that six-legged cat on the cliff not far away... no, it's much bigger than a cat.
Whatever it was, being stared at by those deep blue eyes, Dobby felt like a turkey about to be put into the oven, unable to keep any secrets.
Now, it doesn't seem to want to be the best House-elf anymore.
"Just like you see."
Tina said, "Your job is to act as Newt's assistant, taking care of these Fantastic Beasts, and that's only a small part of it."
So, do you agree?
Dobby's ears twitched; what had it just heard...?
Not a servant, but a wizard's assistant?
Dobby got up from the ground, and his legs stopped shaking.
"Madam, Dobby willing to be your assistant."
"You need to think this through." Tina glanced at it.
"This is only a small part; further away, there are Dragon, Nundu, and Kelpie..."
Upon hearing the Dragon, "Dobby shuddered, but still forced himself to stand there.
"Dobby is fine, Dobby isn't afraid of Dragon!"
Tina smiled.
In fact, with Newt around, there's no danger here; it's mostly just doing odd jobs.
If Jacob Kowalski, who knew nothing about magic, could freely come and go from here, let alone House-elf.
Of course, the premise is that it has to overcome its own mental barrier; it won't do to faint from fright at the sight of Dragon.
"So, next up is salary."
Dobby's eyes lit up.
"How about twenty Galleon a week...?" Tina for a moment and gave a number.
Dobby sat down on the ground again, terrified. It seemed that in its eyes, the number twenty Galleon was even more frightening than Dragon.
"No, no, that's too much." Dobby and insisted on just one Sickle a week.
This time it was Tina's turn to frown.
As Scamander's assistant, one Sickle per week?
If other wizards knew this, they'd think the Scamander family couldn't afford to pay their assistants!
"One Sickle is absolutely not enough, at least ten Galleon!"
Dobby had just gotten up, fell to the ground again. He was about to say something when he noticed that Tina had already put on a stern face.
And that was the end of it; Dobby didn't say another word.
Kyle silently gave a thumbs up from the side.
As expected of Auror once captured the "Wizarding World Scourge" and imprisoned him for over seventy years, Tina silenced the poor House-elf with just a glance and accepted his weekly salary of ten Galleon.
But that sounds so strange, it's like saying that Sickle is the biggest currency in the Wizarding World.
Next came the other minor issues.
For example, Tina only allows Dobby to work inside the box; he can't leave the box.
She absolutely forbade anyone to get Dobby close to the machines in the kitchen that make cookies and bread, not even a step.
Dobby agreed... and of course, it couldn't refuse.
Throughout the entire process, Newt stood to the side without saying a word, simply staring intently at Kyle.
"Ahem... I'm doing this for your own good."
Kyle felt uncomfortable under his gaze and said, "Nicolas Flamel has a House-elf butler named Tata, and Professor Dumbledore has over a hundred House-elf who make him tea."
You're friends with them, so you have to fit in, right?
