A Bountiful Harvest
The aerial battle continued into the next day without any sign of abating.
Under normal circumstances, when Dragon face other Fantastic Beasts, they usually end the battle with a single breath of dragonfire, which is also their primary attack method.
However, this ability is less effective when facing other Dragon.
They naturally possess a high level of resistance to dragonfire.
Unless the difference in strength is truly enormous, a single breath of dragonfire would only leave a small mark on the opponent.
Two Dragon with high health and defense, and having lost their main offensive capabilities, basically become a battle of endurance and combat instinct in the end.
Like the Swedish Short-Snout before, it was lacking in this aspect and belonged to the first batch of losers to be eliminated.
Of course, don't be fooled by those Dragon in the sky that seem to scratch and bite you without causing any damage. Anyone who tries to join in the fun will probably be torn to shreds in an instant.
Let alone wizards, even the toughest Troll would have a hard time lasting more than two seconds.
By the time dawn broke, Newt was already at his limit, swaying uncontrollably as he stood there.
Don't be fooled by his youthful days when he was always traveling the world with a suitcase, sometimes going days and nights without sleep—that was fifty or sixty years ago.
For a man nearing 100 years old, staying up all night was too much for him. Newt had to drink two bottles of sobering potion to barely keep going until now.
Just as Newt was about to drink his third potion, Kyle snatched the Potions bottle from his hand with lightning speed.
Awakening potions are useful, but you can't drink them like water.
Moreover, this stuff only forces people to be more alert; the more you drink, the more uncomfortable you'll feel after the effects wear off.
"We don't know when this will end. Why don't you take a break?" Kyle stuffed the Potions bottle into his pocket. "Leave the rest to me."
"Okay..." Newt looked up at the sky, hesitated for a moment, and then accepted Kyle's suggestion.
He really couldn't hold on any longer.
"Although this place is relatively safe, you still need to be careful. If you encounter any danger, get away from here immediately... I remember you have a ring that can Apparition."
Newt gave Kyle another instruction before opening his trunk.
There was a small bed inside, just enough for a temporary rest.
After Newt went inside, Kyle picked up the box and continued to observe the battle in mid-air.
This is destined to be a very tedious process.
Newt woke up around noon the next day, and then Kyle went to rest...
From night to day, and then back to night...
The melee didn't gradually subside until the early hours of the third day.
It wasn't the end; rather, the Dragon were all too weak to fly anymore, swaying aimlessly in the sky like they'd been drinking fake alcohol. The once massive bursts of dragon flame had dwindled to tiny flames, forcing them to temporarily cease hostilities.
Once the last Hungarian Horntail had quieted down, Newt led Kyle back to the previous spot.
Soon after, the others also returned one after another.
Most of them looked exhausted, and after returning, they went straight to sleep without saying a word.
The Dragon Sanctuary had prepared tents for everyone as temporary accommodations in advance, right next to the dining area.
Kyle curiously entered the tent with the name "Newt Scamander" written on it.
Inside was a fairly spacious three-bedroom apartment, with a bathroom and kitchen. Although the furniture looked a bit old, it was all very clean and there was no musty smell.
Having taken turns resting, Kyle wasn't sleepy at all. He walked to the table, sat down, and prepared to take stock of his gains over the past few days.
Newt had previously stated that the Dragon Sanctuary wouldn't interfere with what they collected while they were helping out... This was an unspoken understanding between the two sides.
He opened the Mokeskin Pouch and took out its contents one by one, placing them on the table.
First came the Dragon's teeth and scales, filling two large bags. However, the quality varied greatly; some were intact, while others were severely damaged. Kyle didn't have time to sort them carefully and simply piled them haphazardly in a corner.
Then he took out a large, dark red bottle and placed it heavily on the table.
This is filled with dragon blood, about a pint's worth.
In Diagon Alley, a bottle of dragon's blood costs twelve Galleon, and the portion is pitifully small.
Kyle had collected enough to fill about thirty of those bottles.
Three days... strictly speaking, it should be two days. Three hundred and sixty Galleon, that's one hundred and eighty Galleon per day.
Even if the two of them split it, they still got ninety Galleon... Add in all the other odds and ends, and the day's harvest was more than Mr. Weasley's monthly salary.
"Oh... is this all dragon blood?"
Just then, Newt, who had just entered the tent, immediately spotted the bottle on the table.
"That's right." Kyle nodded, then frowned and said, "But there are at least three kinds of dragon blood here. Will that have any effect?"
"As long as there's no Peruvian Vipertooth in it, it's fine," Newt said. "Their blood also contains toxins."
"That's good." Kyle breathed a sigh of relief.
He had noticed that the blood of the Peruvian Vipertooth was green, and it also had a particularly pungent smell, making it easy to spot if mixed in with other creatures.
"Oh, by the way," Newt pointed out the direction of the tent and smiled, "I just saw Lockneil seem to be buying these things, and the prices are quite reasonable. You can go to him if you need anything."
Lockneil, that professor from Beauxbatons?
Kyle thought about it and decided not to go.
He doesn't lack Galleon for the time being, and he can use these things himself; they are excellent materials for making alchemical items or Potions.
Most importantly, it's 100% authentic, so you don't have to worry about it being mixed with any other random stuff.
Kyle took out another bottle, divided the dragon blood in half, and handed it to Newt.
Newt didn't refuse and accepted it with a smile.
Dragon blood, when diluted, can be used to make tonics for other Fantastic Beasts. Just a little bit added can immediately elevate the quality of the tonic.
If it were placed in a store, it would be the difference between a regular item and a premium item.
For Newt, who has a whole box of Fantastic Beasts, dragon's blood is a necessity.
However, he didn't take anything else; he left it all to Kyle.
Kyle spent more than half an hour picking out all the severely damaged ones, and then that evening he packed them up and sold them to Professor Locknir of Beauxbatons.
A big bag, weighing thirty Galleon by weight. It's not much, but it's better than nothing.
In fact, he had thought that Professor Locknir wouldn't accept these things, but to his surprise, the other party accepted everything, as long as it was related to dragons.
"You're at Hogwarts, so you might not be aware..."
Professor Locknir handed Kyle thirty Galleon, smiling as he said, "Beauxbatons offers alchemy courses, but for beginners, there's no need for the finest materials; these are sufficient."
He also told Kyle that if there were any defective products later, he could sell them to him at the same price, by weight, as many as he wanted.
Kyle nodded in agreement.
He now suspected that the materials used in Hogwarts Potions Class might have been bought by Snape from somewhere, weighed out by the pound.
