Cadogan Who Only Recognizes the Passcode
Just as Mikel had expected, a lively party was held in the Hufflepuff Common Room that evening and lasted until late into the night.
During this time, Ladon grabbed a small box and flew out of the window. When it returned, the gold coins inside had turned into a full box of Honeydukes candies... making the atmosphere even more lively.
Kyle figured their laughter must have reached the kitchen next door, because the House-elf had given them lots of snacks, and every time a plate was empty, it was immediately filled.
As night fell, someone finally couldn't hold on any longer... put down the cookies in their hand, yawned, and returned to the dormitory.
The banquet gradually came to an end.
Kyle lay down on the bed and quickly fell into a deep sleep.
I don't know how much time had passed, maybe only two or three hours... when suddenly someone knocked on the dormitory door.
Then, Cedric, wearing pajamas, came in, turned on the light, and woke the two people in the room.
"What's wrong, Cedric? Isn't the banquet over yet?" Ryan asked, getting out of bed and rubbing his eyes.
"It's not a banquet..."
Cedric's expression was serious. "Sirius Black just broke into the Gryffindor dormitory and attempted to kill a student."
"Black, broke into the dorm?" Ryan snapped back to reality, his face filled with disbelief. "You're kidding, right!"
"Of course not." Cedric shook his head. "Professor McGonagall has confirmed it; it's true."
Ryan was terrified and stood there frozen, unable to move.
"Get up, there's no sleep tonight," Cedric continued. "Professor Sprout just came by and she ordered everyone to stay in the common room until the professors have finished searching the castle."
You all go quickly, I still need to inform the others."
When they arrived at the common room, there were already quite a few people there. Kanna was sitting on a sofa in the corner and waved to Kyle.
"Have you heard?" she asked in a low voice. "That Sirius Black broke into the Gryffindor dormitories."
"Hmm." Kyle nodded. "Cedric already told me all that."
"You said he might not..." Kanna looked towards the door, a hint of worry on her face.
"Don't worry, it won't happen," Kyle said. "The first requirement for entering the Hufflepuff Common Room is that you must have a wand... you can't open those barrels with your bare hands."
More and more people filled the lounge, all dressed in pajamas, chattering about what had just happened.
They couldn't understand how Sirius Black had managed to break into a college dormitory.
"I remember Gryffindor has passwords, right?" someone asked, yawning.
"And I've heard that Sir Cadogan changes his passwords very quickly, sometimes two or three times a day. How did Black guess them?"
"Perhaps he tricked the portrait... I remember that Sir Cadogan, he looked a bit simple-minded, and not quite right in the head."
Everyone gathered in the common room, chatting and waiting for news of Black's arrest.
At dawn, Professor Sprout returned and told everyone that Black had escaped again.
She told everyone to go back to sleep, but many people didn't move.
They felt they wouldn't be able to sleep even if they went back, so they simply stayed in the common room.
There are many people here, and there's a warm fireplace, so it feels safer than sleeping in the dorm.
Ryan was one of them, leaving Kyle alone in the entire dorm.
The next day, security was increased throughout the castle.
Professor Flitwick, carrying a large photograph of Sirius Black, found the guard at the castle gate. Filch was also extremely busy, running back and forth in the corridors to plug the gaps, not letting even the smallest crack in the wall go unchecked, sealing them all tightly.
"You'd never guess what happened..."
"That's terrifying..."
At the Hufflepuff table, Fred and George were vividly describing what had happened the previous night.
"Black was standing right in front of Ron, holding a knife..."
"Poor little Ron, he must be terrified..."
"Wait, who did you just say, Ron?"
At this moment, Cedric suddenly interrupted them, saying with confusion, "But shouldn't Black be looking for Harry?"
Everyone knows that Harry defeated his master.
"His target was definitely Harry from the start, no doubt about it..." Fred said, "But I think he must have gotten the wrong bed."
George shrugged. "Everyone draws the curtains when they sleep, so Black can't see anyone and has to search one by one. Luckily, Ron's seat is closest to the door..."
"He probably didn't expect to be discovered so quickly."
"There's one more thing." Cedric looked up, adding some more corn chips to his bowl. "How exactly did Black get in? That portrait of yours... didn't Sir Cadogan notice anything at all?"
At this point, Fred suddenly slammed his hand on the table and said angrily, "How come I didn't notice? Black was the one who put him in there."
"That foolish knight, we initially thought he was quite interesting, but it turns out he's a complete idiot."
George said angrily, "He even saw Black's face, but he didn't care at all; he only followed the commands."
"Fortunately, the Fat Lady has been brought back..."
"That foolish knight only deserves to stay in the corner of the North Tower."
"Black know your password?" Kanna asked.
"He even knows all the passwords for this week," George said, "Because..."
"Oh!"
Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by a gasp of surprise.
At the Gryffindor table, Neville, holding a red letter, rushed out of the Great Hall as if fleeing... It was a Howler.
Seeing his disheveled appearance, the Slytherin table burst into laughter.
Then they heard the Howler explode in the Entrance Hall... Grandma Neville's voice, a hundred times louder than usual, screamed and condemned him for bringing shame upon the Longbottom family.
Slytherin's laughter grew louder.
Hermione also rushed out of the Great Hall, seemingly wanting to comfort Neville.
"Just as you can see."
Fred shrugged. "Neville wrote down a week's worth of passwords on a piece of paper, then threw it away..."
"Black must have found this somewhere..." George said, "And then he came to the tower and read it aloud."
Professor McGonagall was furious, forbidding Neville from going to Hogsmeade again and forbidding anyone from telling him the password.
"Poor Neville, he can only get back to the common room now by being escorted by someone else."
