Quidditch Finals
The next day was match day. After breakfast, Kyle and the Hufflepuff team headed to the Quidditch Pitch together.
"Good luck, Kyle," Kanna called out, Kyle back.
After changing their clothes, they walked out of the locker room and onto the court, where a wave of noise greeted them.
This was the last match of the year, and the stands were unusually large; almost everyone in the castle was there.
Even Dumbledore was sitting in the middle of the High Table, smiling and talking to Professor McGonagall.
Professor Snape and Professor Sprout were not among them; they sat at the very front of their respective houses, their positions clearly defined.
"The Hufflepuff team is on the field!" Lee Jordan, the commentator as usual, shouted. "Leading the way are captain Cedric and Kyle... This is a team that always brings surprises. I feel they can break the record for the fastest Golden Snitch catch today!"
"On the other side, Slytherin is led by Marcus Flint..."
As he spoke, both teams had already reached the center of the field.
"The two captains shake hands!" Madam Hooch said.
Flint and Cedric stepped forward and shook hands firmly.
Then, with a whistle, the competition began, and fifteen brooms, including Madam Hooch's, flew into the sky at the same time.
"Hufflepuff has possession now, and Kyle is as dominant as ever, getting the Quaffle first... Slytherin's Warrington tries to intercept... Wow, that was a beautiful Bludger, Warrington stopped... Great, Kyle has shaken off Montague again, he scores, Hufflepuff takes the lead!"
As the Quaffle pierced the goal, a cheer erupted from the Hufflepuff supporters...
In contrast, the Gryffindor side was a bit quieter... They hoped to see the match become a close contest, so that Gryffindor would have a chance to win in the end.
On the court, Kyle, who had just scored, was about to return when he turned around and saw Flint rushing towards him at high speed.
Kyle managed to turn the broom in time, thus avoiding being knocked down.
"Sorry!" Flint grinned. "Excuse me, I didn't notice there was someone here!"
"It's alright," Kyle smiled. "It's Quidditch, that's normal."
Flint didn't pay attention at first, but he quickly understood what Kyle meant.
During one of his attacks, he was hit hard by Quaffle; the force was so great that he almost thought it was Bludger.
"Foul!" Flint roared at Madam Hooch, pointing at Kyle. "He did it on purpose! Slytherin should take the penalty!"
But his request was refused.
"No, that was a normal pass!" Madam Hooch shouted. "You suddenly appeared in the middle, play continues."
Flint's face turned red with anger, and he angrily swung his fist.
Pass?
Does a pass require that much force? He felt like the Quaffle could even be thrown out of bounds!
At that moment, Kyle had already made his second shot.
It's 20-0 now.
Seeing Hufflepuff take the lead so early, the Slytherin players became furious and quickly began to use any means necessary to win the Quaffle.
Bole hit Grace with a baseball bat, and when he was discovered, he tried to argue that he thought she was Bludger. Mikel was furious, so she braced herself with her broom and kicked him in the face.
"Oh, that was a brilliant move, I definitely want to learn it... Just kidding, Professor McGonagall ... I mean, that's wrong, you should sneakily use your elbow..."
"Jordan!" Professor McGonagall stood up.
"I'm sorry, Professor, I'm so sorry, it won't happen again..." Lee Jordan quickly said, "Madam Hooch awards each team one free throw..."
Both free throws went in, bringing the score to 30-10.
"Slytherin has the ball now, no, Hufflepuff has taken it, it's Grace. No!... Slytherin has the ball back, Flint almost knocked her off her broom... Flint is flying toward the Hufflepuff goal... Watch out!"
But Flint scored, and a cheer erupted from the Slytherin side, while Snape, at the very front, wore a sinister smile.
Next, Slytherin used the same trick again.
Montague moved in front of Kyle, pretending to grab the Quaffle, but his hand actually reached for Kyle's broom...
Then, just as his hand touched the broom, a small thing resembling a plant bud suddenly sprouted from among the branches.
Strange, how did the Bowtruckle end up in the broom...? Before Montague could figure it out, he saw the Bowtruckle extend its sharp claws and stab at his fingers.
Montague instinctively pulled his hand back, but because the movement was too fast, his body swayed and he almost fell off the broom.
"Foul!" Montague shouted triumphantly, regaining her balance. "Madam Hooch, he has something in his broom, foul!"
Madam Hooch flew over but found nothing, and because her action of grabbing the broom was too obvious, Hufflepuff was instead given a penalty kick opportunity.
"What a pity..." Kyle muttered as he passed Montague after scoring the free throw.
Montague was trembling with rage, his eyes blazing with fury.
Next, Kyle and Grace each scored a basket.
60 to 20.
Hufflepuff's advantage is even greater.
The Gryffindor stands were silent; there was no cheering for the goal as there had been before.
Oliver Wood was scratching his head, while Fred and George sat there, staring blankly at the field.
Hufflepuff has reached 60 points, which means that if the Golden Snitch's 150 points are added, their total score will surpass Gryffindor's.
Fred and George had very mixed feelings.
They want to win the Quidditch Cup, but they don't want to see Slytherin win...
Not only them, but others also thought of this, and even Lee Jordan lowered his voice considerably when he was commentating.
However, the match continued...
Kyle scored again, making it 70-20.
Shortly after, Mikel knocked the Quaffle out of Warrington's hands with Bludger, and Grace seized the opportunity, grabbed the ball, and threw it into the Slytherin goal.
80 to 20.
The Hufflepuff fans below were hoarse. Professor Sprout was at the very front, drawing a giant Hufflepuff badger in mid-air with his wand.
Suddenly, a golden light flashed.
Many people saw it... the Golden Snitch, hovering less than a few feet above the ground.
Almost simultaneously, both Malfoy and Cedric moved.
They accelerated suddenly and swooped down towards the Golden Snitch.
As they approached the ground, the two were side by side, and simultaneously lunged forward...
The surroundings were completely silent; everyone was anxiously awaiting the results.
Finally, Cedric stretched out his hand, revealing a glimmer of gold dancing between his fingers.
Taking advantage of his height, he was the first to catch the Golden Snitch.
"Congratulations to Hufflepuff..." Lee Jordan's voice choked with emotion, but he still announced loudly, "They won the final victory and took the Quidditch Cup!"
Hufflepuff supporters stormed over the fence and onto the pitch.
As soon as Kyle landed, he was lifted up along with the other players and hoisted to a high place.
He saw Hagrid wiping away tears, and Professor Sprout jumping up and down excitedly... She didn't seem like a professor at all now.
Dumbledore stood in the stands, holding the enormous Quidditch Cup in his hands, smiling as he watched them.
