A Novel Experience
Many people heard what Kyle and Professor McGonagall said, but for them, who couldn't even handle a snail, they were clearly not qualified to participate in such high-level topics.
More importantly, I can't understand it anyway, so I might as well keep struggling with the snail on the table.
The two classes passed quickly, and by the end, only Kyle and Kanna had completed Professor McGonagall's requirements.
As a reward, Professor McGonagall not only added ten points to both of their grades, but also exempted them from their homework.
Only those two didn't have to do homework; everyone else had to practice the spell all night and write a five-foot-long paper, which was due the following afternoon.
In an instant, almost everyone in the classroom couldn't help but complain that there was just too much homework. It was at this moment that most people realized how terrible fifth grade was.
Last year's assignment was three feet long, but now it's five feet long, almost double the original length.
They had always heard that fifth grade was the scariest year, and now they had finally experienced it for themselves.
Mikel and Ryan, in particular, were almost in tears.
The amount of homework isn't the problem; the issue is that Kyle doesn't have to do any... What's the difference between this and just taking away their answer key?
The afternoon consisted of two consecutive Charms classes. Like Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick also emphasized the importance of the fifth-year exams before class, and stated that everyone needed to work harder than before in order to perform to their full potential.
Then, when class ended, everyone looked at him nervously. Professor Flitwick did not disappoint them and assigned a huge amount of homework.
Perhaps the next Charms class is tomorrow morning; there's just not enough time. Professor Flitwick's assignment only requires writing three feet of paper.
However, the students didn't seem happy at all.
When it was time for dinner, almost all the fifth-grade students were unusually quiet. Even Mikel, who loved excitement the most, didn't say a word. He ate a few mouthfuls of rice in silence and then immediately ran to the library.
A full day's work, totaling eight feet in length, meant they simply couldn't afford to waste any time.
Cedric watched all this with a calm expression... As someone who had been through it all, he had experienced it all.
However, most of the time, he, like Kyle, belonged to the small group of people who were exempted from homework.
And this is only the first day.
In the days that followed, the fifth-grade students finally understood what OWL was. The average of ten feet of homework per day was just the most basic operation, and there were still a lot of spells to practice.
Even the easiest Divination Class became demanding, with Professor Trelawney requiring everyone to record their dreams and, based on the <The Dream Oracle>, create a complete Prophecy... at least three times a week.
They were spending more and more time in the library each day, while their favorite Wizard's Chess and Exploding Snap were forgotten in a corner.
Once, Kyle was in the common room and overheard a chess piece cursing in a corner, saying that it was covered in dust and no one was cleaning it.
Because of this, almost half of the students' Divination assignments were highly similar... They even dreamed about doing their assignments in the library.
In this situation, Kyle seemed rather lazy, because since he was exempted from most of his homework, his time spent in the library not only didn't increase, but actually decreased significantly... Oh, and so did Kanna.
In the huge common room, only the two fifth graders could leisurely play the Exploding Snap for a while, making many people green with envy.
On the weekend, after Kyle woke up, he was the only one left in the dorm... Mikel and Ryan had both gotten up early and gone to the library, leaving only two empty beds.
Kyle was a little taken aback to find himself being the last one to get up.
He walked out of the dormitory and immediately saw Kanna sitting in an armchair. She seemed to have been waiting for a while, and the Exploding Snap on the table were piled up very high.
After having breakfast in the Great Hall, the two went together to the Room of Requirement on the Seventh Floor.
"Ready?" Kyle asked, opening the box.
"I've been preparing for this for a long time." Kanna jumped into the box with practiced ease.
It's still that familiar little house.
But this time it felt noticeably different; with Kyle by her side, she no longer needed to worry about any Dragon.
The place wasn't big, and she had already seen most of it when she came last time, so her gaze immediately turned to the door.
"Come with me..." Kyle saw through her thoughts and pushed open the door, walking out.
The next moment, Kanna was completely stunned.
Although she had considered that a place big enough to raise a Dragon would have to be quite large, she never expected the area outside the room to be so spacious!
She stood on tiptoe, but couldn't see her head at all.
"You didn't actually bring the Forbidden Forest in here, did you?" Kanna asked instinctively.
"No, no..." Kyle shook his head. "It's a little smaller than the Forbidden Forest, maybe half the size."
As he spoke, Kyle skillfully stretched out his arm, grabbed the snuck-up Niffler, and casually tossed it into the bushes nearby.
But Kanna didn't notice this; her attention was completely drawn to the spectacular sight before her.
To her surprise, she discovered that there were several distinctly different climates here. In front of her was a lush forest, but next to it was an endless desert, and opposite her was a snowy world where goose feathers were falling heavily.
Each place was separated by only a narrow path, like the squares on Wizard's Chess, clearly distinct from one another.
Suddenly, a shadow appeared above their heads.
Then Kanna saw a Dragon, several tens of feet long, swooping down from the sky and finally stopping in front of them.
It's the same Dragon we saw before, the one that scared Ron into fainting.
Kanna instinctively felt a little scared, but Norbert didn't even glance at her.
After landing, Norbert's head, which was about the size of a table, bumped directly into Kyle's arms, as if he were being affectionate.
Despite being prepared, Kyle was still thrown five or six meters away.
"Damn it..." Kyle rubbed his chest and said to Kanna, who was trying not to laugh, "I've warned it so many times, but it obviously hasn't listened even once."
"Remember to be careful next time you come; getting bumped by it is no fun."
Kanna's smile vanished. She looked at the enormous creature, dozens of feet tall, with lingering fear, and secretly resolved that she would never have come here alone if Kyle hadn't been with her.
"Is that really Dragon?" she couldn't help but ask.
"Otherwise," Kyle patted the scales on Norbert's head, "It can't be a tabby cat, can it..."
If it could look different, it really might be possible, after all, what Dragon is so docile... Kanna muttered to herself.
Seeing her slightly flustered look, Kyle smiled and asked, "Would you like to touch it?"
"May I?"
Kanna's eyes lit up; she had never been close to Dragon before, nor had she ever had the chance.
"Of course, no problem, don't worry."
Having received Kyle's affirmation, Kanna mustered her courage and gently placed her hand on Norbert's body.
The Dragon's scales weren't as smooth as I'd imagined, and they felt warm to the touch, like touching the wall next to a fireplace.
Kyle then carried her onto Norbert's back.
Sitting on the dragon's back, Kanna smiled happily; this feeling was something she had never experienced before... it was very novel.
Norbert was unhappy. He snorted and breathed out a small burst of flame, but because Kyle was there, he couldn't move. He could only wag his tail and bang the ground loudly to express his dissatisfaction.
