Ministry of Magic's Warning Letter
Kyle wasn't too bothered by the owl that suddenly appeared in front of him, or the letter in its claws.
I've been receiving all sorts of letters lately; it would be strange if I didn't receive any on a particular day.
But it's worth Mr. Weasley rushing back on his way to work... Could it be the meeting Dumbledore mentioned by McPhail?
Kyle took the envelope, pulled out the letter inside, and began to read it curiously.
Then his expression changed.
The letter wasn't from Dumbledore, but from the Ministry of Magic, and its contents were so outrageous that Kyle even thought he was seeing things.
Either the people at the Ministry of Magic have gone mad.
"What's this."
Seeing that Kyle remained silent, Fred and George curiously gathered around and read the letter aloud.
"We have received a report that you used a spell at the Leaky Cauldron at 10:36 a. m. today."
This behavior violates the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery. Please go to the Ministry of Magic on the morning of August 12th to explain the situation, otherwise we have the right to expel you.
Mafalda...
"No, am I seeing things?"
Fred couldn't help but exclaim, "Or am I seeing things? Is it true that using spells in the Leaky Cauldron gets you a warning?"
"Are they crazy?" George also finding it hard to believe. "Or is there a Muggle hiding in the Leaky Cauldron?"
They remembered clearly that while the so-called "restraint law" did not allow underage wizards to use magic outside of school, there was a prerequisite: that Muggle must be present when using magic.
If this condition isn't met, basically no one will care, especially not at the Leaky Cauldron.
Those who appear there are basically wizards; even if there are Muggle, they are students' parents. Everyone knows that wizards exist, so how is that a violation of the "Law of Restraint"?
"Watch your words, George." Percy stepped forward and casually straightened his collar.
"In any case, underage wizards are not allowed to use magic outside of school; that's the rule, regardless of where they are."
"Percy... how about you move your room to the garden? I feel like you and the Gnome would get along really well."
George glared at him, annoyed. "Leaky Cauldron is right next to the Diagon Alley. So many wizards gather there. Why does the Ministry of Magic say it was Kyle used magic, and not someone else?"
"That's because... the Ministry of Magic must have its own methods," Percy stammered. "In any case, Minister Fudge can't be wrong, and since Kyle made a mistake, he must accept the punishment..."
"Shut up, you big-headed boy!" Fred said irritably. "Can you honestly say you've never used magic at home?"
"I don't..."
Before Percy could finish speaking, George let out a sneer.
"I remember you used Summoning Charm to look for the glasses we hid."
"Use Sticking Charm to secure the envelope so we can't see it."
"And Mending Charm..."
"Wand-Lighting Charm..."
"Banishing Charm..."
Various names kept popping out of Fred and George's mouths, and when they occasionally got stuck, Ron and Ginny would fill in for them.
With each word they uttered, Percy's expression grew increasingly grim, until finally he could only shut his mouth and return to his room without a word.
"That annoying guy is finally gone," Fred said. "He'd become more and more of a nuisance ever since he got promoted."
Then he looked at Mr. Weasley, "Dad, what's going on?"
"Yeah," George said, "That's why Kyle got warned for using magic at the Leaky Cauldron."
"I don't know either," Mr. Weasley shook his head. "This is what Mafalda told me. She said someone insisted that Kyle used a spell outside of school and made her send a warning letter."
Who is it?
She didn't say.
Mr. Weasley tapped his finger on the table, hesitated for a moment, and then continued, "There's one more thing."
"What?"
"Kyle isn't the only one going to the Ministry of Magic this time; Harry is too."
"Harry? He used magic in Diagon Alley too?"
"Not Diagon Alley, but Little Whinging," Mr. Weasley said, "And in front of three Muggle, with magic."
Ron and Ginny stood up at the same time.
"No, I have to go ask him," Ron said anxiously, then turned and ran upstairs.
"What's more troublesome is," Mr. Weasley sighed, "That this isn't the first time Harry has used magic in front of Muggle, so Kyle just went to inquire, but he's now facing trial."
"Trial?" Ginny's face paled. "Harry, will he be expelled?"
"No, no!" Mr. Weasley shook his head firmly. "They can't expel Harry, and Dumbledore wouldn't agree to it."
"Sorry, kids, I might have to leave for a bit. Oh, and Kyle too..."
Mr. Weasley's tone softened. "Don't worry, like I said, they can't be sure if it's you or someone else in Diagon Alley using the spell, so you'll be fine. You'll just be going through the motions."
After saying this, Mr. Weasley hurriedly left the Burrow.
Ginny soon went back to her room, leaving only Kyle, Fred, and George in the living room.
"You... you really used a spell?" Fred asked tentatively.
Kyle nodded.
He admitted that he did use an Muffliato to prevent anyone from eavesdropping when Rita Skeeter was revealing her secrets, but the question is, how did the Ministry of Magic find out?
Did someone see it?
Even if they saw it, there's no need to make such a fuss. When did the Ministry of Magic become so dedicated?
Kyle felt there was definitely something wrong with this.
Did Rita Skeeter betray us?
"No, it shouldn't be." Kyle immediately dismissed the idea.
It wasn't that she trusted Rita Skeeter's character, but rather that she dared not. Neither her Animagus identity nor Fudge's secret could be easily dismissed with a few words.
Even for her own sake, Rita Skeeter would never betray them.
Could it be because of Voldemort...? Fudge knows he's on Dumbledore's side too?
That's quite possible. He wrote a lot of letters during the holidays and never kept them hidden, so it's normal that Fudge would know.
But to come looking for trouble with him just because he said it casually, isn't Fudge being a bit too petty?
Kyle casually tossed the letter aside.
"It's alright, Kyle," Fred comforted him. "There are plenty of wizards in Diagon Alley. As long as you don't admit it, they certainly won't know you've used magic."
"Yes," George chimed in, "And the Leaky Cauldron is full of wizards, so even if they use magic, it won't violate the Binding Law. They can't do anything to you."
"Yes, I know." Kyle nodded.
Despite saying that, he was indeed disgusted by these methods, and the situation with Harry was probably also related to the Ministry of Magic.
Mr. Weasley just said he used magic in front of three Muggle, which I guess means the Dursley family.
They must have investigated and know that the Dursley family dislike Harry. Not only are they unlikely to testify for him, they might even pin the blame on Harry.
Even though Harry protected them.
"Seriously... the Forbidden Forest is a big place, and you'll find all sorts of birds there," Kyle muttered to himself.
