The Wand Chooses the Wizard
Looking at the stone archway in front of him, Kyle felt a sense of familiarity.
Oh, right, the Four Founders.
Kyle remembered that when he first met the Four Founders in the Chamber of Secrets, the snake-like statues had formed a similar archway.
The shapes and even the ripples in the archway are almost identical.
Wait, is he going to have to meet with the Four Founders again? Is the Department of Mysteries really capable of that?
Just as Kyle was lost in thought, he heard Diana's voice again.
"What spell did you use to kill that Death Eaters?"
"Fiendfyre," Kyle said instinctively.
Diana's lips twitched visibly.
She took a few deep breaths, took out her wand, and aimed it at the stone door. "Now, cast Fiendfyre again."
"Here?" Kyle hesitated.
That's Fiendfyre! What if it burns this place down? Besides, this is the Ministry of Magic; wouldn't it be okay to use Dark Magic here?
"Use it when I tell you to," Diana urged.
"All right."
There was nothing Diana could do; since Diana had said so, Kyle could only take out his wand, wave it gently, and conjure a giant dragon formed from condensed flames.
Silent Fiendfyre?
Seeing Kyle's practiced movements, Diana's expression changed slightly again.
It's already rare for someone Kyle's age to have mastered the Fiendfyre, but he's even better at casting it with Nonverbal Spell.
For a moment, Diana didn't know whether she should be proud or not.
That's certainly something to be proud of, but the Fiendfyre... seems a bit inappropriate.
Then she shook her head and pointed her wand at the stone door.
As if some kind of shackles had been broken, the white light gradually detached from the stone gate and, guided by Diana, drifted to the vicinity of the Dragon formed by the Fiendfyre.
Kyle's eyes widened suddenly.
The Fiendfyre before them suddenly changed, transforming from uncontrollable fire into a pulsating blue sphere of light.
"This is the original form of magic," Diana explained.
This was the first time Kyle had ever seen anything like this, and he was immediately filled with curiosity.
Then, he suddenly noticed that there seemed to be something else on that blue ball of light, or rather, that the color there was a bit darker.
Although it's only as thin as a hair, you can still see it if you look closely.
However, just as Kyle couldn't help but take two steps forward, wanting to see more clearly, another stream of white light surged over, gently encircling the blue magic, like a stream of water, washing away the blemishes attached to it.
"That's enough," Diana said, waving her wand again, and the surrounding white light receded back into the stone door.
At the same time, the magic returned to its flawless, crystalline blue state.
But before Kyle could get a good look, golden-red flames burst forth from it.
"Finite Incantatem!"
Diana casually waved her hand, extinguishing the Fiendfyre.
"What's that?" Kyle couldn't help but ask.
"Blood Debt," Diana said calmly. "When a wizard ends the life of another wizard, the magic changes to a certain extent. That's why I know you killed Death Eaters."
"Is that so?" Kyle frowned. "Why have I never heard of it before?"
"Because schools won't teach you this, and it's not something you should be exposed to. Just like they won't teach you the Unforgivable Curses."
Is this considered a soul?
"No, it has nothing to do with the soul; it's just a change in one's own magical power."
Diana put away her wand and said, "Magic changes according to the wizard's heart. When you end another wizard's life, malice will inevitably arise in your heart, and a portion of your magic will be drawn to this malice and transformed into a state more suitable for it."
Kyle nodded, seemingly understanding.
He seemed to understand Diana's meaning a little. It was like how, at school, he liked to eat fried pork cutlets, so every time he went to the kitchen, the House-elf would give him fried pork cutlets.
But one day, he suddenly glanced at the bread. Although it was just a glance, a few of the hundred or so House-elf noticed it.
They would think they liked the bread, so the next time they went to the kitchen, the House-elf would bring them bread, just as they had guessed.
"Many wizards seek this," Diana said softly. "It can make magic more volatile and greatly enhance certain spells."
"For example, the Cruciatus Curse and the Killing Curse... especially the latter, Blood Debt can make the Killing Curse incredibly powerful."
"But what they don't know is that the mind can influence magic, and magic can in turn influence the mind. When one frequently uses excessively manic magic, one will become increasingly irritable and easily angered."
"This is also why most dark wizards have eccentric personalities and become increasingly obsessed with Dark Magic."
"So, if that's the case..." Kyle stroked his chin, "Does that mean as long as I refrain from using Dark Magic, the Blood Debt won't have any effect?"
It's still about the House-elf and the kitchen. When there are ninety-eight servings of fried pork cutlets in front of him, he could easily choose not to take the two breads.
"Yes, that's right." Diana nodded. "But even if it has no effect, it's still not a good thing."
"That's not wrong," Kyle nodded.
He couldn't help but look at the stone door; the inside was still the same as before, showing no signs of change whatsoever.
What's inside?
"A path equally unknown," Diana said, "But we can't go in; it repels everything conscious, including ghosts and portraits."
Kyle curiously took two steps toward the stone door, and seeing that Diana didn't stop him, he felt relieved and boldly reached his hand toward the stone door.
Then his hand came out from the other side.
"How amazing," Kyle murmured. "Is this what the Bureau of Department of Mysteries does?"
"Just one of the tasks." Diana pointed her wand at the stone door and gently lifted it. A ripple quickly spread inside, and colorful halos flowed through it. Kyle saw blue, red, orange... a breathtaking sight.
But soon, Shimen returned to calm.
"There are three such stone gates in the Department of Mysteries, each representing life, magic, and time respectively."
Diana continued, "And what you see now is what magic originally looked like."
"Remember what Ollivander said? The wand chooses the wizard. In fact, the wand chooses magic, only everyone's magic is different."
Kyle found it hard to describe his current feelings. This was his first time getting up close to the Department of Mysteries, and well, it was indeed very mysterious.
"Alright, it's almost time."
Just as Kyle was lost in thought, Diana suddenly said, "We should go back."
Kyle nodded and followed Diana away from the stone platform.
They passed through the misty room again, and the room containing the huge water tank.
"Isn't anyone guarding this place?" Kyle couldn't help but ask. "We don't seem to have encountered a single person."
"No need to guard him," Diana said. "Under normal circumstances, even if Voldemort were to break in, he would only wander around the front hall and would never get here."
"What if someone actually gets here?" Kyle thought for a moment. "I mean, someone who just stumbles in by accident."
"That only proves he should have been here," Diana said calmly. "We don't need to stop him."
The two passed through a maze of doors once again and arrived at the corridor outside the Department of Mysteries.
At that moment, Chris was standing by the elevator not far away, waiting for them.
