The Sudden Interrogation
When Kyle came out of the Department of Mysteries, it was also time for the Ministry of Magic to start work, but Diana was not in a hurry for Chris to take Kyle away.
"Give me your wand," she said.
Although Kyle was somewhat confused, he still took out his wand from his pocket and handed it over.
Diana took it, pressed her index finger against the tip of the wand, and then several red sparks flashed at the tip.
It's unclear what Diana did, but her complexion was definitely not good, as evidenced by Chris's gradual backward movement.
Finally, Diana couldn't hold back any longer and smacked Kyle on the head.
"Use the Fiendfyre less often in the future," she said. "It's a very difficult spell to control, and if you're caught, the punishment isn't much lighter than the Unforgivable Curses."
Although it didn't hurt, Kyle still clutched his head and howled twice, while defending himself:
"They're all Death Eaters. If I don't use Fiendfyre, they will."
"That's true..." Diana said, "But as long as they haven't been completely exposed, their identities aren't Death Eaters, but the fact that you used Fiendfyre is undeniable, and it's easy to find out."
"Prior Incantato," Kyle murmured, sensing that this inquiry was not as simple as it appeared.
"It seems you've figured it out." Diana returned the wand to Kyle, adding meaningfully, "You should be carrying the box, right? Be extra careful."
Diana then returned to the Department of Mysteries, while Chris took Kyle in the elevator, going up to the floor of the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.
As the two walked down the crowded corridor, Chris said, "There's still a while before the appointed time, let's go get something first."
This place is completely different from the Department of Mysteries; the corridors are filled with cardboard boxes and miscellaneous items, making it feel unusually crowded.
"Excuse me, can I pass by?" A person rushed over from behind, carrying a box in his hands.
"Bob?" Chris called out to him. "Didn't you go to Cornwall with Amos?"
"Oh, Chris, I was just looking for you," said the staff member named Bob. "We found this over there."
He pushed the box in his hand forward.
"Amos and I thought it was just an ordinary chicken on a farm, but we never expected it to breathe fire."
As they were talking, a small flame shot out from the box, and the cardboard box was quickly burned through.
Fortunately, it was just a flame.
"Aguamenti!"
A stream of water was poured onto the cardboard box, extinguishing the flames in time.
Chris opened the box, glanced inside, and then examined it with his wand.
"Clear traces of Ancient Runes... Go find the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. This behavior is a serious violation of the <Ban on Experimental Breeding>. Have the Hit Wizard bring the person back."
"Okay, I'll go right now." Bob hurriedly walked back, but returned again a short while later.
"What should we do with this?" he asked, holding up the box in his hand.
"Take it to the forest; it definitely can't be left outside in this condition."
Bob ran to the end of the corridor, pushed open a door, and went inside.
"That's the room where they keep the lab animals." Seeing Kyle's curious look, Chris explained, "There's a real forest inside, used to house all sorts of confiscated Fantastic Beasts."
"Oh..." Kyle nodded and asked, "Does this happen often?"
"Not a small amount," Chris sighed. "Sometimes a wizard can have a sudden flash of inspiration and cause us a lot of trouble."
Seeing Chris's helpless expression, Kyle instinctively thought of Hagrid.
He seems to be one of those who have "a flash of inspiration," like the Blast-Ended Skrewt from last year, though Chris probably doesn't know about it yet.
After that, Kyle followed Chris to his office... the deputy director's office.
Chris, who served as acting director for a year, seems to have been reinstated.
"Who is the current director?" Kyle asked.
"I don't know, the candidate hasn't been decided yet." Chris shook his head. "However, there was news a couple of days ago that Senior Deputy Minister Umbridge might temporarily take over as director."
Chris spoke calmly, showing no sign of dissatisfaction at being "demoted."
"Alright, have a seat for a bit," he said. "I need to find the materials I prepared yesterday."
Kyle casually found a sofa to sit on and looked around at the office furnishings.
The place was filled with piles of files, a few spiky sticks were casually placed in a corner, and stacks of parchment were piled up to almost reach the ceiling.
"Ah, I found it!"
At that moment, Chris took out several sheets of parchment from the drawer of the table.
Kyle leaned over and took a look, discovering that it contained content he had copied from the "Law of Constraints".
"It's always good to be prepared," Chris said.
They then left the office and took the elevator back to the Ministry of Magic's main hall.
Kyle came to see Professor McGonagall. Dumbledore had said she would be waiting here, but Kyle and Chris circled around several times without finding any sign of Professor McGonagall.
"Perhaps she's already gone to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement," Chris glanced at the time. "We have to go in ten minutes."
"Alright," Kyle said. He didn't continue looking for Professor McGonagall, but instead went with Chris to the second floor, where the Department of Magical Law Enforcement was located.
But things changed at this point.
They had originally agreed to meet at Amelia Bones's office, but the staff member who was supposed to show him the way led him to another room.
Looking at the group of nearly thirty people in front of him, Kyle knew that his earlier feeling was correct.
If it were just a "binding law," how could so many people have come... even the Head of the Auror Office, Scrimgeour, was here.
Theodore Nott is dead.
Scrimgeour didn't even exchange a few pleasantries. As soon as Kyle entered, he ordered the door closed and asked expressionlessly, "What's your opinion on this?"
"I'm sorry, I don't know who you're talking about," Kyle said. "Besides, I came to the Ministry of Magic to explain the use of magic at the Leaky Cauldron, but your question was clearly unrelated to that."
"That's right, Scrimgeour." Chris stepped forward, blocking Kyle's path, and asked with a grim expression:
"What are you doing? The notification we received was about the misuse of magic, not about cooperating with your investigation of Nott."
"This is the minister's request, Chris," a witch suddenly said beside Scrimgeour. "Someone says they saw Theodore Nott die at the hands of this child, and that he used Fiendfyre, so we must investigate."
"Who is it!" Chris asked.
Amelia Bones instinctively looked behind her.
At the same time, the three people also stood up from the last row.
"Walden Macnair... Igor Karkaroff, Lucius Malfoy..."
Chris read out their names one by one, his face growing increasingly grim.
"They are the witnesses," Amelia Bones said. "Given Mr. Karkaroff's status, we have to take this seriously, Chris. I hope you understand."
