If he had not needed to save some spending money for school, he probably would not have spared even those last few Galleons.

The joke items were simply too interesting, along with the things related to Defense Against the Dark Arts. Every single one of them looked incredibly useful.

On top of that, Harry had not gone out for over a month, so he instinctively went on a shopping spree. Before he knew it, his money bag had run dry, and the jingling Galleons had turned into all sorts of magical items.
