"Patrolling the castle? Of course, no problem."
When Kyle found Nearly Headless Nick in the third-floor corridor, he readily accepted the job and plunged straight into the ceiling above.
But he floated back down again soon after.
"May I ask why, though... or rather, is there anything I need to pay particular attention to while I'm patrolling?"
"Just keep an eye out for anyone suspicious." Kyle thought for a moment. "Professor McGonagall suspects Voldemort might still be in the castle, so..."
Before Kyle could finish, he was interrupted by a sudden shriek.
"Oh, Merlin's beard, who did you say was in the castle?"
Maybe it was just his imagination, but Kyle thought Nearly Headless Nick looked even paler than before.
"Don't get worked up, Sir Popington." Kyle hurriedly explained, "Voldemort definitely isn't in the castle. Professor McGonagall is only doing this as a precaution... like when you leave home and always glance back to make sure you locked the door.
"Besides, Sir Popington, I don't understand why you'd be afraid. Even if Voldemort really were here, he couldn't do anything to you."
Nearly Headless Nick froze for a moment.
That was right. Why should a ghost be afraid?
"All right. Though I don't need to open doors to leave a room, I suppose you're right."
As if trying to salvage his overly undignified display just now, Nearly Headless Nick made an effort to look solemn and serious.
"How about this? I'll invite my friends to help. You know, I have many ghost friends. We can inspect every corner of the castle as quickly as possible, and we won't have to worry about safety either."
"Of course. Everyone knows Sir Popington of Hogwarts has friends everywhere," Kyle said with a smile.
Ghosts did like hearing a little praise.
