Background

Tang San is Tang Hao's son and a direct descendant of the Clear Sky Sect. His mother was a Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor who had taken human form; Tang Hao later tells him that Martial Soul Hall was responsible for her death and the Clear Sky Sect's decline. 109 251

As a child in Holy Soul Village, Tang San immediately senses danger from Lu Yu despite their similar age, beginning their long rivalry. 2 He becomes Grandmaster's apprentice at Tang Hao's instruction, though he initially considers Grandmaster a failure and accepts the arrangement chiefly for theoretical knowledge and help with his early Soul Rings. 8 9
