History

Qin Hao enlisted in the Water Army more than a month after Hong Ming and became his roommate. Unlike Hong Ming, he is socially adept, maintains a broad network, and regularly connects impoverished soldiers with paid work. He introduced Hong Ming to cargo-hauling work and later to boat-rowing jobs, retaining an informal introducer's fee from each payment. 7 9

He and Hong Ming initially rowed for Wang Heng's Coiling Dragon Stake training. Qin Hao carefully followed Wang Heng's requirements and endured Master Fu's scolding without open complaint. When Wang Heng no longer needed rowers after reaching Inner Force, Qin Hao gave Hong Ming the sole replacement position rowing for Zhou Min. He later relayed Zhou Min's lucrative offer to hire Hong Ming full-time, though Hong Ming declined it. 8 9 13 15

Qin Hao caught a Treasure Fish during a rainstorm, drawing the attention of other scouts who wished to obtain it. Upon returning, he told Hong Ming about his fortune and learned that Zhang Tao had been searching for him. Zhang Tao subsequently attacked Qin Hao with a weapon in his dormitory; Qin Hao repelled him with Bright Force, publicly revealing his breakthrough. Zhang Tao was punished, while Qin Hao entered the Water Soldier Reserve Camp. 18 19

After Hong Ming reached the Preparatory Camp, Qin Hao invited him to seek sponsorship from the Zhong Family. He explained that the arrangement would resemble an equal retainer relationship rather than recruitment as a household servant. Qin Hao personally persuaded Zhong Shaoying to sponsor Hong Ming despite Hong Ming's low-grade aptitude. 28 29

Qin Hao competed for a squad-leader position among the veterans but ranked behind those who had mastered Dark Force. He accepted this result more calmly than Wang Heng and later helped Zhong Shaoying send congratulatory gifts after learning of Hong Ming's Dark Force breakthrough. 66

During the Martial Examination, Qin Hao fully drew a seven-shi bow for an Upper B result. He passed the examination in 88th place, though Hong Ming's exceptional performance left him feeling pressured to improve. 78 79 84

Local forces later targeted Zhong Shaoying's sponsored Water Soldiers amid their conflict with the Ten Thousand Gold Chamber of Commerce. Qin Hao and several companions endured deductions to their rations, pay, and cultivation resources, as well as blocked promotion opportunities. Unable to find another squad leader willing to shelter them, Qin Hao asked Hong Ming to take them in. Hong Ming accepted despite outside pressure; Qin Hao subsequently arrived with five Water Soldiers to join Hong Ming's Fourth Team. 104 105 107

Personality

Qin Hao is polished, pragmatic, and highly conscious of the value of connections. He works as an intermediary between wealthy clients and poor soldiers, understands informal payment customs, and can remain outwardly courteous even while being treated disrespectfully by employers' servants. 7 9

He is ambitious about martial success and wealth, openly envying those with better resources or faster breakthroughs. At times, he measures his own prospects against Hong Ming's, but he does not let that envy erase their friendship; he repeatedly introduces Hong Ming to work, sponsorship, and opportunities. 8 13 28 29

After his circumstances reverse and Hong Ming becomes a squad leader, Qin Hao is visibly embarrassed to seek help. Nevertheless, he refuses to abandon the other sponsored Water Soldiers facing persecution and chooses to advance or retreat with them. 104 105
