Background
The Nine Provinces was originally a martial world whose land essence surpassed that of the Grotto-Heavens and Blessed Lands attached to it. Its native martial artists were nevertheless constrained to the First Rank before the resurgence of Spirit Essence. 232
Ancient records describe the Ten Great Grotto-Heavens, Thirty-Six Lesser Grotto-Heavens, Seventy-Two Blessed Lands, and countless Secret Realms as longstanding mysteries of the Nine Provinces. The more powerful Grotto-Heavens were suppressed by the world’s laws and could not fully emerge until the Golden Age and the breaking of Dragon Qi’s blockade. 216
The native Qi and Blood Martial Dao was historically promoted by the Prajna Sect, which spread the Dragon-Elephant Scripture and Vajra Scripture through the land. Its legacy was later suppressed; the Giant Elephant Sect retained half of the Prajna Dragon-Elephant Scripture, while the Great Zen Temple inherited a volume of the Vajra Scripture. 284
Geography and Metaphysics
- The realm is described as possessing nine thousand li of mountains and rivers and is enclosed by a Heaven Embryo Membrane. 381 403
- Grotto-Heavens and Blessed Lands attached to the Nine Provinces share its origin and could manifest after the Dragon Qi blockade weakened. The Nether Realm, by contrast, is an external Grotto-Heaven whose gates would be destroyed by the world’s heavenly might if they attempted to descend. 232
- The Lesser Void-Clear Heaven added two thousand li of Spirit Essence-rich land when integrated into the Nine Provinces. 341
- The later mass integration of Grotto-Heavens and Blessed Lands physically altered distances between existing regions; settlements that had once been neighbors could be separated by ten thousand li. 361 382
- Li Beichen anchored his Sword Venerable Unique Nature in the Nine Provinces. His advances in the sword path feed back into the world’s sword destiny, while his power is enhanced when fighting within its territory. 426
Society and Governance
The Great Han Dynasty became the realm’s central power after Liu Binghu’s conquest, though its early rule required officials and administrative structures to be extended across newly subdued territories. 258
The Nine Provinces Martial Dao Alliance was established to exchange resources and Grandmaster techniques among martial factions. Its Chamber of Commerce later became a major institution linking sects and Hidden Sects across the realm. 293 303
Liu Binghu and Zhuge Yangming instituted Martial Arts Across the World, creating Martial Academies and Martial Examinations to broaden access to martial cultivation. 354
After receiving its world plaque, the Great Han Dynasty became the unified representative of the Nine Provinces in external diplomacy and negotiations. 508
Martial Development
- Heaven and Earth True Martial — Several such techniques appeared in the Nine Provinces a thousand years earlier, though only people with exceptional destiny could cultivate them. 269 293
- Qi and Blood Martial Dao — Wenren Zhong shared the God of War Records as a general outline for this path, enabling the Blood-Qi Research Institute to develop a universal Grandmaster technique for external martial artists. 303
- Spirit-Melting Blood Exchange Technique — Its broad availability caused a surge of First Grade external martial artists across the Nine Provinces. 303
- Martial flourishing — The Yinxu Grotto-Heaven and successive Spirit Essence tides produced large numbers of Grandmasters and later Venerables among both the Imperial Court and Jianghu sects. 336 410 441
- New Martial Arts era — Li Beichen’s lecture at Elephant Mound was later regarded as the watershed ending the old era of isolated martial development and beginning systematic integration with Upper Realm cultivation systems. 483
Infrastructure and Defenses
- Little Spirit Communicator and Base Stations — Developed by the Nine Provinces Alliance Chamber of Commerce to permit real-time communication across the realm; later versions could project remote images. 303 410
- Dragon Qi Sky Net — A realm-wide surveillance system formed by bronze Dragon Stakes. It detects hostile experts in covered cities and counties so Wind, Fire, Forest, and Mountain troops can respond. 369 371
- Wind, Fire, Forest, and Mountain — Great Han’s elite military formations, deployed throughout the provinces to maintain order and resist foreign invaders. At later stages, their unified force could suppress Grandmaster Ninth Heaven experts. 371 410
- Nine Provinces No. 1 — A satellite launched into the Star Sea to gather intelligence. It detected the approaching Left Divine Nether-Void Heaven and revealed that the Ten Great Grotto-Heavens were world-sized Arks. 372 380
- Grotto-Heaven Engines — The conquered Ten Great Grotto-Heavens were installed as ten engines on the world’s exterior. Fueled by the people’s blood-qi through the Great Blood-Qi Array, they enabled interstellar travel. 424 461
Story Role / Major Arcs
Warlord Era and Unification
Tuoba Ling’s decree triggered rebellion across the Nine Provinces, producing more than a hundred large and small factions. Liu Binghu’s Tiger Army emerged as one of the principal forces in the struggle for the realm. 222
Liu Binghu’s northern campaign eventually conquered the Nine Provinces, laying the foundation for the Great Han Dynasty’s rule. 258
Conflict with the Grotto-Heaven Blessed Lands
The resurgence of Spirit Essence allowed experts and factions from Grotto-Heavens and Blessed Lands to enter the Nine Provinces, often treating native martial artists as inferior and competing for the realm’s opportunities. 236 280
Native sects, the Giant Elephant Sect, and the Great Han Dynasty gradually united against hostile external forces through the Demon Sweeping operation. 310
The Nine Provinces later absorbed the Lesser Void-Clear Heaven and many other Grotto-Heaven Blessed Lands, reversing the earlier imbalance of power. 341 361
Ten Great Grotto-Heavens Invasion
The Ten Great Grotto-Heavens invaded by sending hundreds of Sixth Heaven Grandmasters through the Nine Provinces’ Heaven Embryo Membrane. The invasion devastated many sects outside Jiangnan before the Great Han military and local heroes organized a counterattack. 370 371
The Dragon Qi Sky Net, the Wind, Fire, Forest, and Mountain armies, and martial artists across the realm collectively repelled the invaders. 371 372 410
Li Beichen’s defeat of the Twenty-Three Venerables ended the Ten Great Grotto-Heavens’ dominance. Their worlds were captured and repurposed as engines to move the Nine Provinces away from the approaching Yin energy catastrophe. 423 424
Voyage to the Upper Realm
Using the Ten Grotto-Heaven Engines and the people’s collective blood-qi, the Nine Provinces began its Star Sea voyage toward the Upper Realm. 424 461
