| First Appearance | The Nether Realm opens in the Nine Provinces 228 |
Nature and Properties
- The Nether World exists in a different dimension from the Star Sea and does not rely on the Nine Provinces' Heavenly Fetal Earth Membrane. It may appear to overlap the Star Sea while remaining fundamentally separate from it. 367
- It is a true, vast world rather than a conventional secret realm. Yin Eyes and larger Yin-Nether Eyes connect it to the world of the living; the latter are described as “Ghost Gate Passes.” 385
- Yellow Springs Road leads from these gateways into the Nether World. Yin-Nether Eyes are widespread across the Star Sea rather than unique to the Nine Provinces. 385
- Entering physically exposes a living being to eventual consumption by Yin energy; entering as a soul normally causes cultivation to erode away until the intruder becomes food for necro-spirits. 385
- Yin energy suppresses the Heaven-Man Unity of Yang World Venerables while strengthening Ghost Venerables, making combat within yin-saturated territory heavily favorable to undead beings. 391
- Yin and yang are difficult to communicate across. Satellites can temporarily establish a network in the Nether World, but its Yin energy and Blood Moon corrode such devices within three to five days. 583
Environment
The Nether World's sky is eternally ink-black beneath a blood-red moon whose haze stains the landscape in dark red. Its terrain is dominated by black Nether Soil, gray clouds, bleak mountains, twisted vegetation, ghostfire, and wandering specters. 388
- Blood Moon — Illuminates the realm and creates an environment exceptionally favorable to practitioners of Nether World arts. 388 580
- Nether Soil — Black earth covering much of the first layer and used in structures such as Fengdu Ghost Capital. 388 622
- Yellow Springs Road — The route reached after crossing a Yin-Nether Eye; its waters are deadly. 385 388
- Forest of White Bones — A twisted bone forest visible in the first layer. 583 588
- Ghostfire — Oily green flames in which human faces can manifest with eerie laughter. 388
- Black Springs — Openings between layers of the Nether World that release purer Yin energy. 514
Layers and Regions
| Layer / Region | Known Features | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First Layer / Hundred Domains of the Nether | Contains the Hundred Domains, including the Nether Death Domain; home to major sects, cities, Yin-Nether Eyes, and vast numbers of low-level undead. 389 391 | The first layer was thrown into disorder when the second layer was pulled upward; it was later swept by Yang World prodigies. 535 588 |
| Nether Death Domain | A middle-to-lower-ranked domain controlled by powerful factions; its resources include a Yin-Nether Eye connected to the Star Sea. 389 391 | Contains Shadow Town, Nether Soul City, and the Fourth Yin-Nether Eye. 390 537 |
| Second Layer | A fragmented, unstable realm containing ruins from an ancient immortal era and passages to the upper layers. 514 515 | The Zhou Heaven Star Array forcibly dragged it toward the Yang World's Star Sea. 535 |
| Third Layer | Filled with burial pits containing clay Yin Soldiers, many arranged in ancient military formations. 537 588 | Its soldiers emerged into the Star Sea and later confronted the Yang World expedition. 537 588 |
| Deeper Layers | Contain ancient, dormant existences and a boundless forest of black trees that can nurture powerful ghostly forms. 535 556 | Ghost Immortals and other forces stronger than Upper Ghosts emerged from these depths. 556 |
Inhabitants and Power Structure
| Rank / Group | Description |
|---|---|
| Faceless Ghosts and wandering spirits | Lowest-level undead. They are weak enough to be dispersed by vigorous life-blood and firm will. 388 |
| Feral ghost entities | More dangerous mindless beings driven solely by slaughter; the strongest can rival Ghost Venerables. 390 |
| Ghost Sect Masters | Powerful undead cultivators who serve as guards, sect members, and regional combatants. 390 397 |
| Ghost Venerables | High-level spirits with combat power comparable to Venerables; they dominate major factions and can overwhelm Yang World experts in Yin-heavy environments. 390 391 |
| Upper Ghosts | Beings above Ghost Venerables. The Nether Soul Hall, Dead Man Sect, and Styx Valley each possess or possessed Upper Ghost-level leadership. 391 512 |
| Nether Soldiers / Ancient Yin Soldiers | Disciplined undead soldiers originating from deeper layers, markedly unlike ordinary savage spirits and capable of organized warfare. 537 556 |
| Ghost Immortals and Yin Immortals | Immortal-level forces that emerged from the deeper Nether World and began entering the world of the living. 556 557 |
| Bright Venerables | Ancient leaders who directed the spread of Nether World methods and worked to restore the Nether World's influence. 579 587 |
Necro-spirits can be naturally born from the Nether World without reproduction. Many discard complex emotion and retain only primal urges to kill, devour, and grow stronger. 389

Relationship with the Yang World
In ancient times, the Nether Realm invaded the Nine Provinces and was driven back only after major sects and Grotto-Heaven Blessed Lands united. 367
When the Nether Realm opened again, black threads released from its gate drained the life force of living beings across the Capital. The Five Directions Grotto-Heaven Reverse Operation Array prevented an immediate full-scale invasion by redirecting its portals toward grotto-heavens and blessed lands, where Yin energy corrupted spiritual essence. 228 231
The Nether World's later strategy expanded beyond direct invasion. Ghost Immortal Queen Mother of the West and other forces spread cultivation methods among living beings, seeking to turn Yang World cultivators into Nether World immortals and bring them under Nether World control. 557 565
- World of the Living / Yang World — Its fundamental opposite; Nether creatures crave the blood, flesh, and souls of Yang World beings. 583
- Heavenly Court — Maintains frontier defenses and launched a punitive expedition into the Nether World under the protection of the Zhou Heaven Star Array. 586 587
- Nine Provinces — One of the worlds endangered by nearby Yin-Nether Eyes; its closest corresponding gateway is only one of four in its domain. 408
- Li Beichen — Entered the Nether World to investigate and restrain its threat, infiltrated its factions through his Yama Dharma Body, and later led Yang World forces through its layers. 386 390 588
