"Did you think I couldn't see you pointing a pistol at me?"

Yin Kuang gave a bitter laugh. "Even though my intelligence drops by three points when I'm angry, I'm not an idiot, and I'm not blind. Do you think I couldn't see that huge mirror right in front of me? You think you're so clever that everyone else must be a fool? If I hadn't kept pretending to be crazy, and if Zeng Fei hadn't arrived, you would've killed me by now. Wang Ning, how can I trust you?"

"You think I didn't know you'd put a tracker on the grenade? How could a mercenary not have a tracker? You wanted to draw all the mercenaries over to deal with me. You were trying to get me killed."

"Li Shuangmu... You, high and mighty, handsome, talented, and more capable than anyone else. I doubt you ever gave me a second thought... For someone like you, friendship and all that is just empty talk. Why would you care about something that has no value to you?"

"Zeng Fei, all I can say to you is that I'm sorry. Sigh, if there's anyone to blame, it's your bad luck for not finding the right teammates. Maybe, if fate allows, we'll become friends someday..."

"Qian Qianqian, a lovesick fool who only has eyes for handsome men..."

Cradling Guide Dog Mary, Yin Kuang walked cautiously, muttering as he picked apart his former teammates, as if trying to convince himself.

"If they want to use me as a shield, why can't I use them as shields? There's nothing wrong with returning the favor, is there? Besides, they're all so capable; they might be able to deal with those mercenaries. I'm just an ordinary person. I'm not strong enough to be your shield."

Nobody knew that Yin Kuang had left something in the Hummer.

It was a "contribution reward" he'd taken from Sagittarius, whom he had killed: the Cross of Faith.

Item: Cross of Faith.

Description: A silver cross. It contains the purest, most selfless faith of Sagittarius, an elite mercenary.

Rating: Special item.

Notice: This item can be equipped.

Requirement: Only those who believe in Jesus may equip it.

Effect: ???

Evaluation: Forgive, and you will find release. Believe in me, and you will have eternal life.

Please note: A miniature signal transmitter is embedded in the Cross of Faith. Use with caution.

When Yin Kuang saw the description, he broke into a cold sweat.

But then, in a flash of inspiration, he spotted Guide Dog Mary in the trunk and thought of the T-Virus Serum and Umbrella Corporation. He thought of the mercenaries who had escaped, and finally recalled Wang Ning's behavior. A mad, utterly devious plan came to mind.

A plan that took everyone into account!

Even Yin Kuang broke into a cold sweat at the thought. He wanted to abandon this scheme that would "kill three birds with one stone," but the idea clung to him like a parasite, like a vine wrapped around a tree. He couldn't shake it.

Unable to bear the conflict within himself, Yin Kuang finally decided to explain his plan while concealing his true motives. He would leave everything up to their own choices. That way, he thought, his conscience might feel a little lighter.

After all, whatever happened, it would be their own choice, wouldn't it?

But once he laid out his plan, everyone was deeply skeptical, and they kept arguing without reaching a decision. More and more time passed, and their situation grew increasingly dangerous. In the end, Yin Kuang abandoned his original plan and suggested acting alone.

At that point, he hadn't wanted to scheme against Zeng Fei and the others. He'd only hoped to hurry them along so they'd make a decision. He welcomed anyone willing to join the operation, and had nothing to say to those who weren't. After all, dealing with Umbrella Corporation was extremely dangerous, and Yin Kuang understood that.

But their selfishness had disappointed him far too much! Now, he didn't want them involved in his plan at all.

They wanted the T-Virus Serum but weren't willing to pay the price. When the mercenaries came after them, they even wanted to push him out as a shield. Wang Ning had gone further still, "kindly" giving him a grenade with a miniature tracker attached so he could "protect himself"! How could Yin Kuang tolerate being schemed against like that?

How could anyone feel safe with a group like this?

Furious, Yin Kuang finally gritted his teeth and left the Cross of Faith in the Hummer's trunk. While bending down to pick up Guide Dog Mary, he'd secretly slipped the silver cross into a concealed crevice!

"Sigh."

Yin Kuang glanced at the watch on his wrist. It showed "01:37." That meant he'd spend the next three-plus hours alone, facing the darkness, the Zombies that might suddenly lunge out and bite him, and the savage, bloodthirsty Lickers.

Of course, none of that was the real danger. The crucial question was how to make the "deal" with Umbrella Corporation—and how to protect it!

The only thing that gave him some comfort was that he could now focus entirely on planning the operation without worrying about his "teammates" stabbing him in the back.

Even if he ultimately failed and lost ten years of his life, Yin Kuang had no complaints...

Besides, Yin Kuang absolutely would not allow himself to fail!

"Umbrella Corporation... The T-Virus... Angela's pure T-Virus has a forty percent chance of giving a living being T-Virus enhancement. I wonder whether Umbrella Corporation's T-Virus is any different from Angela's pure strain... Mary's Heart Blood can raise the chance of acquiring T-Virus enhancement by thirty percent, bringing it to seventy percent... There's still a chance of failure, but seventy percent is already very high! I suspect that forty percent success rate is just the Headmaster looking after the freshmen. It definitely can't be that high for people in this world; otherwise, there'd be Alices everywhere. There's no time to worry about that. Right now, my only way to get the T-Virus is to trade Mary to Umbrella Corporation..."

The "Rescue the Guide Dog" mission was already complete, and this dog had become a "special creature." Rather than let that go to waste, he might as well squeeze every bit of value out of her!

Yin Kuang gritted his teeth. As he thought, he carefully crossed two blocks through the alleys, avoiding several Zombies before slipping into the next alley.

American cities were full of towering buildings, with countless alleys between them. All kinds of crimes tended to happen in places like these, and heroes in American comics loved darting in and out of them.

Just then, he heard a low, beastlike growl, as if it were saying, "Hungry... hungry..." Yin Kuang stopped at once and swallowed with difficulty.

He felt a chilling wind sweep through the alley, raising goosebumps all over his body.

"A Zombie!"

Yin Kuang slowly set Mary on the ground, then gently drew the silenced Type 54 from his waist and crept forward.

He slowly peered out of the alley. Sure enough, a Zombie with a rotting body and tattered clothes wandered aimlessly along the street not far away. And this Zombie was a beautiful woman—or she would've been, if the left side of her face still had flesh, if her left breast had a volleyball-sized lump of flesh like her right one, and if her right leg were as slender as her left instead of a bare white bone. Then she might have qualified as a Zombie "beauty."

Even from far away, Yin Kuang could smell the nauseating stench.

But the next moment, his eyes lit up.

Of course, he wasn't interested in the Zombie "beauty" that way. That was disgusting... Still, he was interested in her body... Uh, that sounded worse the more he said it... What he'd actually thought of was how to prove Mary's value to Umbrella Corporation!

If Mary's blood really could neutralize the T-Virus—of course, the warm blood from Mary's heart could neutralize the T-Virus in an infected person, but Yin Kuang honestly wasn't sure whether the rest of her blood would work. Still, the Headmaster had said, "Special creature, you are not authorized to use." Considering how effective Mary's Heart Blood was, it might actually be possible!

He'd use this female Zombie to test it.

Yin Kuang slowly raised the Type 54 and aimed at the Zombie "beauty" in the distance.

"Hit her... I have to hit her!"

The gun kept trembling. Yin Kuang gripped his right hand with his left, but both hands shook. What could he do? He'd never used a pistol before.

With no other choice, he braced the gun against a garbage can in the corner of the alley. With something to support it, the gun finally stopped shaking.

"I have to hit her!"

Yin Kuang gritted his teeth and pulled the trigger!

A soft "pfft" sounded as a bullet flew out. But it didn't hit the Zombie beauty in the head. It struck the huge lump on her right breast instead, and the mass of flesh swayed, making Yin Kuang's eyes blur.

"Ugh!"

The Zombie beauty whipped her head around, her rotting face turned toward Yin Kuang's hiding place. Her empty gaze fixed on him, making his hair stand on end. Then she came shambling toward him with an ugly, swaying gait.

Yin Kuang panicked and pulled the trigger again.

Pfft!

The bullet hit the Zombie beauty in the abdomen.

Yin Kuang suddenly slapped himself. "Calm down. One more shot!"

"One more shot. Just one more. This one will hit!"

Yin Kuang kept muttering that he'd take one more shot at the Zombie "beauty." He waited until she'd come within ten meters before he finally pulled the trigger.

The Zombie "beauty's" head jerked back, and she fell over.

"Phew!"

Yin Kuang cautiously checked his surroundings. Seeing no other Zombies, he crouched down and dragged the Zombie "beauty's" body into the cold, dark alley.
