Appearance
Yu Xiaogang is a middle-aged man described as being around forty to fifty years old. He has an elegant but melancholy demeanor that reflects his long frustration with his Martial Soul and cultivation bottleneck. 8
- Short white hair.
- Gray robe.
- Initially carries a stiff, reserved bearing. 8
- Later develops a more imposing presence as Luo Sanpao gains dragon-like traits. 15
Personality
Yu Xiaogang is intensely analytical and willing to pursue unconventional research. Years spent attempting to overcome his Rank 30 bottleneck left him obsessed with strengthening his body, filling his room with supplements and repeatedly experimenting on himself. 9 16
His early treatment of Luo Sanpao was shaped by resentment toward the Martial Soul that transformed him from a favored genius into a subject of ridicule. Lu Yi’s observations cause him to recognize this self-centeredness and begin considering Luo Sanpao’s own needs. 8 9
Despite his insecurities, Xiaogang is a devoted teacher. He supports Lu Yi’s risky Soul Ring plan, protects his future education from what he considers an inferior academy, gives him the Twenty-Four Bridges Moonlight Night, and encourages him to keep striving toward Soul Saint rank. 11 12 13
Background and History
A descendant of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Yu Xiaogang possesses Luo Sanpao, a rare detached beast Martial Soul derived from a degenerated dragon Martial Soul. He is recognized as the first person on the continent with such a Martial Soul and became known as “Master” through his theoretical work, including the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul. 8 19
Before meeting Lu Yi, Xiaogang spent years attempting to break through Rank 30 by improving his physical constitution with supplements. Although the approach was not wholly mistaken, he initially overlooked Luo Sanpao’s potential for bloodline evolution. 9
Lu Yi’s theory that externalized beast Martial Souls could express desires for beneficial resources convinces Xiaogang to begin feeding experiments with Luo Sanpao. When Luo Sanpao rejects Dragon Beast meat but chooses a Hundred-year Dragon Blood Vine, its head bulge visibly grows, providing evidence that the Martial Soul can evolve through suitable nourishment. 8 9
Over the following year and a half, Xiaogang assists Lu Yi in developing Self-Created Soul Skills while continuing to feed Luo Sanpao Dragon Beast flesh and blood. Luo Sanpao gradually develops dragon-like features, including horns; light-attributed Dragon Beast flesh proves particularly effective for its evolution. 10 16 19
Xiaogang ultimately breaks through Rank 30 after Luo Sanpao’s horns fully grow. Flender later helps him obtain a 5,500-year-old Vast Sea Azure Dragon Soul Ring, allowing him to become a three-ring Soul Elder. 16 22
Abilities & Skills
Martial Soul Theory and Research
Yu Xiaogang is a knowledgeable Martial Soul scholar whose work is valued by commoner Soul Masters. He specializes in studying Soul Beasts, Soul Ring combinations, physical limits, and the evolution of unusual Martial Souls. 8 12 17
- Authored the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul. 8
- Studies how Dragon Beast attributes affect Luo Sanpao’s evolution. 16 19
- Recognizes the significance of Tang San’s Innate Full Soul Power and Clear Sky Hammer. 16 17

Luo Sanpao
Luo Sanpao is Xiaogang’s externalized beast Martial Soul. It possesses independent emotions and can react to resources that benefit its bloodline. Through careful feeding, it gradually regains dragon-like qualities. 8 9 15
- Consumed a Hundred-year Dragon Blood Vine during Xiaogang and Lu Yi’s feeding experiment, enlarging the bulge on its head. 9
- Develops dragon horns after prolonged consumption of Dragon Beast flesh and blood. 15 16
- Responds more strongly to light-attributed Dragon Beasts than to lightning-attributed ones. 16 19
- Its earlier attack method is associated with releasing waste by farting, an ability that once blasts Lu Yi’s hair into an afro-like mess. 10
- Its combat ability improves substantially after Xiaogang obtains his third Soul Ring. 22
Raging Sea Azure Dragon Top
After absorbing a 5,500-year-old Vast Sea Azure Dragon Soul Ring, Xiaogang gains Raging Sea Azure Dragon Top, an offensive Soul Skill rather than another fart-based ability. 22
