Ye Qin was nearly stunned.
He would never have dreamed that he would discover several stalks of small Dew Grass in this gray, lifeless Purple Mansion, nestled within the crevices of the floating island's gray rocks.
He drifted over leisurely, and as he caught the rich fragrance, a sense of joy suddenly welled up in his heart. This scent was even more fragrant than what he had smelled a year ago. Just by inhaling the aroma, his spirit was greatly invigorated.
He had been searching for this Dew Grass for more than a day or two, and he never expected to see several stalks right here.
He pondered bitterly. He remembered that when he had eaten a gray egg and was in such pain he nearly fainted, he had searched through his large herb basket for detoxifying herbs and had grabbed a stalk of something. However, he had forgotten whether he had actually eaten it. The next day, when he rummaged through the basket again, he found that the Dew Grass had vanished. That missing stalk of Dew Grass had become a lingering worry in his heart. He never imagined he would see five stalks of it here now.
Ye Qin drifted above the five stalks of Dew Grass for a long while, even landing on the leaves to confirm that they were not illusions, but truly existed.
He could not help but stare in a daze.
This Purple Mansion floating island was within the sea of consciousness at his Mud Pill point; it was impossible for several stalks of Dew Grass to appear here for no reason. These stalks must be related to the one he had picked from the cliff face back then.
He had several doubts.
First, how did the Dew Grass get onto this floating island?
Second, how did one stalk of Dew Grass turn into five?
Third, what was the Dew Grass used for?
If he could figure out these three questions, all his confusion should be resolved automatically.
Mountain peak.
Two days later, Ye Qin's divine sense stirred slightly, and the five stalks of Dew Grass appeared out of thin air in his hand. With another movement of his divine sense, the five stalks vanished again, and he could not help but laugh out loud. It had taken him a full two days of constant, repeated experimentation to finally understand what was going on.
It turned out that the Purple Mansion floating island in his sea of consciousness was connected to the world he inhabited. As long as he used his divine sense to move them, the Dew Grass on the floating island could easily appear in his hands. The method to move them back to the island was the same—using his divine sense.
The mystery of why the Dew Grass appeared on his floating island was solved. It must have been that when he was suffering from abdominal cramps after eating the eagle egg, his subconscious had absorbed that stalk of Dew Grass into the floating island, where it landed in the crevices of the gray rocks.
Suddenly thinking of something, Ye Qin hurriedly grabbed his large herb basket and took out other ordinary herbs to test if they could also be moved into the floating island. If he succeeded, he would no longer need to carry the heavy basket; he could simply use the floating island to store herbs, which would greatly conserve his physical strength.
However, after testing all the ordinary herbs in the basket, he found that there was no effect; none of these herbs could be moved into the floating island.
Ye Qin felt slightly disappointed. His plan to save physical strength was not going to work. It seemed that only the Dew Grass possessed this unique property that allowed it to be moved into the floating island.
As for the second point, why his original single stalk of Dew Grass had turned into five, he still had no clue.
Ye Qin began to ponder the third question: What exactly was this Dew Grass? What was it used for? How could it have such a unique effect?
Ye Qin had learned the simplest and most common method at the Herb Gathering Hall for testing the properties of unknown herbs.
If one wanted to know what this Dew Grass was and what it could be used for, the simplest way was to eat a little and taste it. All the herbs in the world were identified by their medicinal properties only after being eaten by people in this way.
Many herbs could be eaten directly, though the medicinal effect might not be optimal. If processed into medicine or pills, the effect was usually much more significant.
Ye Qin took out one of the stalks of Dew Grass, smelled the faint herbal fragrance, and decided to use the "Medicine Testing Method" from the Herb Gathering Hall to taste its properties. Before doing so, for the sake of safety, he prepared dozens of different types of detoxifying and cleansing herbs, as well as a foul-smelling herb that could induce violent vomiting, just in case he was poisoned.
Everything prepared, Ye Qin first licked the Dew Grass with the tip of his tongue.
Half an hour later, there were no adverse reactions.
He then held the leaf of the Dew Grass in his mouth without moving.
Half an hour later, there were still no adverse reactions.
Under normal circumstances, using this progressive "Medicine Testing Method," if an herb were poisonous, it would cause the tip of the tongue to go numb, bitter, or painful. However, because the absorbed toxicity would be very mild, it would only cause pain and not immediate death. (This method will definitely cause poisoning; readers must not attempt this!)
Seeing that these two attempts left his tongue feeling fine, and that there was instead a lingering, refreshing herbal fragrance in his mouth, Ye Qin was basically certain that this was a non-toxic herb. It should belong to the category of benign or ordinary herbs.
Ye Qin bit the leaf again, chewed it up, and swallowed it bit by bit. To his surprise, after the Dew Grass leaf entered his stomach, a wisp of cool air was generated in his abdomen. It circulated through the meridians in his body, colliding and passing through his Mud Pill point before quickly disappearing.
He was all too familiar with this situation.
This was exactly what happened every day when he practiced his cultivation.
Eating this grass had an effect similar to cultivation.
Before long, Ye Qin swallowed the entire stalk of Dew Grass. The flow of air became extremely fierce, causing his meridians to ache under the impact as they operated to their limit. He then began to meditate, his divine sense entering his Purple Mansion floating island.
The situation inside the floating island gave Ye Qin a shock.
Although Ye Qin had been mentally prepared, he still could not suppress the joy in his heart.
He saw that in the air above the entire floating island, there were now dozens of inch-long white glows swimming about. He widened his eyes and counted them quickly; there were over seventy of them. In other words, that unassuming stalk of Dew Grass had transformed into seventy wisps of white glow. Each wisp was a supplement for him.
The medicinal effect of eating one stalk of Dew Grass raw was roughly equivalent to ten days of practicing his <Sitting-in-Forgetfulness Sutra: Sitting and Forgetting Selflessness>.
Ye Qin could hardly contain his great joy; he had finally discovered a way to rapidly increase his cultivation speed.
Under normal circumstances, he would have to toil for at least ten years to complete the first level of Sitting and Forgetting Selflessness. Twenty years for the second level, and forty years for the third. Even if he cultivated until he died, he would only reach the late stage of the third level.
But now, it was different.
If he could obtain plenty of Dew Grass and eat one stalk a day, his cultivation speed would increase more than tenfold. He could complete the first level of the technique in a year—it would be as fast as flying!
"No wonder people in the pugilistic world love to eat internal energy pills with decades or even a century of medicinal power to enhance their internal true energy; it turns out they have such a wonderful effect."
Having figured out the efficacy of the Dew Grass, Ye Qin was in no hurry to eat the remaining four stalks, nor was he in a hurry to absorb those white glows.
Instead, he drifted around the floating island, circling the four stalks of Dew Grass, trying to find a way to cultivate them into even more. These four stalks were only enough for four days; he had to find a way to get more.
Ye Qin drifted, thinking and thinking, until his head nearly split. He did not believe that such rare grass would grow in abundance on the cliff face of this mountain, waiting for him to pick it. If he could find another two or three stalks, he would be burning incense in gratitude.
Such a small quantity could not solve the problem of the Dew Grass being insufficient. And if the quantity of Dew Grass was insufficient, after a few days, his cultivation would once again become incredibly slow, and its help to him would not be as great as he had imagined.
