Background

Yuan arrived in the Great Profound Realm as a transmigrator whose foremost concern was returning to his homeland, where his elderly parents, friends, and family had been left behind. At Qi Refining Level 2, he lacked both the strength and connections to pursue that goal directly. 916

Over fifteen hundred years before Xu Xing examined the Sword Sect archives, Yuan uncovered a Golden Core body cultivator's scheme to create a famine and buy children for an evil body-refinement art. He exposed the crime, only to be framed as a Demonic Path cultivator and hunted nearly to death; visiting Spirit Sound Workshop disciples eventually proved the truth. 104

The incident showed Yuan that the established sects punished the unauthorized famine and the concealment of wrongdoing more severely than the deaths that had enabled the crime. Unable to confront the Dragon-Elephant Heaven-Supporting Sect directly, he began seeking ways to change the cultivation world itself. 104

Yuan later borrowed the Sword Ancestor's name to deter hostile cultivators and push reforms, benefiting from the Sword Sect's lack of public intervention. The Sword Venerable allowed the deception to continue because Yuan's objectives aligned with what Xu Xing had wanted to accomplish. 916 718

After rising through the cultivation realms, Yuan disseminated cultivation methods, established schools, imposed strict laws, and ultimately founded the Righteous Alliance. His reforms succeeded where earlier efforts—including the Sword Ancestor's—had failed, transforming the Great Profound Realm's cultivation era. 104 428 733

Appearance

Yuan is typically depicted as a handsome young man with short black hair and dark eyes, dressed in a black trench coat conspicuously out of place in the Great Profound Realm. 154 916

  • A black-haired, violet-eyed appearance was recorded during his time in Taiyi World. 699
  • His divine-soul remnant manifested in the same black trench coat, initially with his eyes closed. 154
  • During his earlier return to the Righteous Alliance, he operated through a soul projection rather than his physical body. 165

Personality

Yuan began as a straightforward and impulsive idealist: he exposed the body cultivator's atrocities openly despite the danger and lack of institutional support. 104 His desire to return home remained central to his choices, but his pursuit of that goal developed into an ambition to obtain enough power to change the world around him. 916

He is deeply protective of those he considers his own. Even after reaching Truth Insight, he searched relentlessly for a way to stop Yinling's spiritual decline rather than sacrifice an uninvolved world to create a foundation for her. 584 630 After surviving Taiyi World's betrayal, Yuan reflected on the consequences of his decisions and recognized that he had not sufficiently considered others' feelings. 713

Abilities & Skills

Truth Insight Cultivation

Yuan is a Truth Insight Dharma Cultivator whose cultivation centers on space, reflections, and boundless realms. 714

  • Foundation cultivation method: True Scripture of Void Traces, Empty Calamities, and Boundless Realms. 714
  • One Thought, Myriad Worlds — Truth Insight divine ability. 714
  • World-Cutting Overlapping Shadows — Truth Insight spatial technique. 714
  • Myriad Reflected Bodies — allows Yuan to employ reflected or substitute bodies. 714
  • His Dao essence can permeate an entire world, making a concealed Yuan nearly impossible for weaker beings to locate. 707

Heaven-Deceiving Form-Substitution World-Seizing Method

While reduced to a thread of consciousness in Taiyi World, Yuan used this method to deceive the world's Heavenly Will, seize its foundation, restore his lost strength, and seek a means to revive Yinling. 702

  • Teaches suitable living beings to establish “false bodies” that support his plan. 702
  • Lets him remain concealed from Taiyi World's Heavenly Will while he develops his influence. 702 707
  • Its use was a necessity: Yuan could not confront Taiyi World directly while his false bodies were still immature. 702

World Exploration and Coordinate Deduction

Yuan created Yinling and the World-Deriving Instrument to assist with coordinate deduction in his search for the “path of Homecoming.” 222

  • Left extensive Notes on Realm Exploration documenting worlds he visited and the consequences of his interventions. 222
  • Possessed enough insight to alter a world's development through limited interventions at key moments rather than overwhelming force. 378
  • His explorations included attempts to find a suitable physical foundation for Yinling. 584

Borrowed Sword Ancestor Power

During his return as the First Speaker, Yuan temporarily wielded strength lent by Xu Xing. 158

  • Used the borrowed power to summon Righteous Alliance seniors and compel recognition of his authority. 158
  • Perceived the fundamental “hearts” and threads composing a secret realm, and believed he could collapse it with a thought. 158
  • The strength was not his normal cultivation; it provided roughly Dao Integration combat power and was explicitly borrowed from the Sword Ancestor. 158

Equipment / Items

  • World-Deriving Instrument — An eighty-one-layered armillary instrument created by Yuan for world-coordinate deduction; he intended to leave it to Xu Xing, but Xu Xing later returned it to Yinling as her physical foundation. 222 584 712
  • Green jade legacy — A hidden jade containing poetry prompts and a divine-soul remnant programmed to recognize a fellow transmigrator. 145 154
  • Realm exploration notes and jade tomes — Records of his travels, research, and efforts to locate the path home. 222 365

Relationships

  • Xu Xing / Sword Ancestor — Fellow transmigrator and eventual ally. Yuan once borrowed Xu Xing's reputation, later learned of Xu Xing's true status, and was revived by him after Taiyi World's ritual left him near death. 155 713 718
  • Ning Wanzhu — Dao companion and one of Yuan's closest confidantes. Their growing relationship provoked Hong Sheng's hostility in Yuan's early years. 603 717
  • Ming Yu — Close confidante who openly acknowledges that Yuan matters to her and repeatedly searches for him during his disappearance. 585 644
  • Yinling — Artifact spirit created by Yuan for the World-Deriving Instrument. She became sentient, followed Yuan in search of him, and sacrificed herself to aid him in Taiyi World. 222 699
  • Confusion — A self-proclaimed friend whose fixation on Yuan is uncomfortable and intrusive. Confusion arranged events in Taiyi World to force Yuan to confront harsh truths. 630 699 806
  • Hong Sheng — Former romantic rival over Ning Wanzhu. Yuan repeatedly defeated him, but Hong Sheng later acknowledged Yuan's superiority in cultivation, deeds, and disposition. 717 723 733
  • Chen Yuanlin — A later Righteous Alliance cultivator who reveres Yuan and addresses him as master. 739

Story Role / Major Arcs

Founding the Righteous Alliance

Yuan's rise from a persecuted Qi Refining cultivator to Truth Insight established him as the defining figure of his era. He founded the Righteous Alliance and guided widespread reforms in cultivation, education, and law. 104 428

Disappearance and the Search for Homecoming

After disappearing without warning, Yuan traveled through other realms in search of the path home and a way to save Yinling. His records became the principal clues through which Xu Xing, Ning Wanzhu, and Ming Yu traced his journey. 222 584 585

Taiyi World

Yuan reached an agreement with Taiyi World's Heavenly Will to resist an external enemy, but Heavenly Will betrayed him and attempted to refine him into the world's foundation. 701 Following Yinling's sacrifice, he concealed himself across Taiyi Continent and spread the Heaven-Deceiving Form-Substitution World-Seizing Method to reclaim his power. 699 702

Return to the Great Profound Realm

Xu Xing intercepted Yuan and Yinling from Confusion's Light of Doubt and brought them back to the Sword Sect. Yuan was unconscious and severely damaged until Xu Xing used scarlet sword light to sever the effects of the ritual and awaken him. 712 713

After recovering enough to think clearly, Yuan chose to return to the Righteous Alliance once Ning Wanzhu and Ming Yu had recovered. He later reunited his spirit and body, though he initially struggled to control his restored physical form. 713 717
