Shibi attended Konoha's Ninja Academy Class A alongside Touma. Both deliberately kept a low profile, though Shibi was regarded within his clan as highly capable. He regularly trained with Touma and shared clan-developed insects with him, including attempting to give him a jar of Xiao-Destroying Bugs before instead gifting him sunglasses. 1 3 5

During the graduation examinations, Shibi used Xiao-Destroying Bugs and the Aburame clan's communications techniques to exchange intelligence with Touma. His father, Shishin Aburame, suspected an opponent of being an infiltrator; Shibi relayed the warning through an insect's low-frequency encrypted message. 14

Shibi's own assessment pitted him against Kizashi Moku, a veteran chūnin known as “Konoha Iron Fist.” The test required only that Shibi survive for five minutes.
