Background / History

Hiruzen takes an interest in Qiuri Shun after personally grading the boy's perfect examination paper, The Third Hokage is the Sun. When reports of Shun's extraordinary ninja-tool performance reach him, Hiruzen orders the Anbu to investigate the child further. 5

He subsequently monitors Shun with a crystal ball, observing both his persistent training and his intervention against the students bullying Might Guy. Hiruzen interprets the latter as proof that Shun possesses the Will of Fire. 8

After witnessing Shun's self-created Chidori and its effect on Kakashi, Hiruzen recognizes the technique as an A-rank jutsu with extreme speed and piercing power. When Shimura Danzō demands Shun for Root, Hiruzen refuses outright and asserts his authority as Hokage. 18
