Background / History

The deaths of her younger brother Nawaki and her lover Kato Dan left Tsunade in a withdrawn, self-destructive state. She used drinking, gambling, and losing money to numb her grief; she also developed hemophobia severe enough to temporarily incapacitate her when confronted with blood. 10 11

Before becoming Qiuri Shun's teacher, Tsunade repeatedly relied on his gambling ability to replenish the money she lost at casinos. Shizune attempted to curb this habit by hiding their funds and intervening whenever Tsunade tried to gamble again. 9 11
