Background / History

During Konoha's 47th year, Minato becomes the intended target of Uchiha Yashiro's political provocation: Yashiro orders Uchiha Sen to assassinate him to warn Hiruzen Sarutobi and destabilize the Hokage faction's balance of power 1.

Sen instead seeks Minato out, confesses the assassination order, and asks him for guidance. Although Minato declines both the request to become Sen's teacher and the request to learn sealing jutsu, he agrees to a controlled spar at Training Ground 23 3. Sen's public surrender after the match turns the incident into a political problem for the Uchiha, prompting Fugaku Uchiha to apologize, offer Minato two mines as compensation, and expel Sen from the clan 3 4.

Minato subsequently accepts Sen—who renames himself Mo Jingxian—into his sphere of protection.
