Background / History
Before open war, Sand Ninja activity increased along the Land of Wind border. Konoha’s scouts could not determine what they were seeking 4. Sunagakure subsequently declared war, alleging that Konoha had assassinated the Third Kazekage; Sand Ninja spies attacked a Konoha supply depot the same day 8. Sunagakure also sought to ease internal tensions and gain resources from Konoha 16.
The fighting centered on the Land of Rivers. Sand Ninja initially gained territory, but repeated frontal assaults failed after Orochimaru stabilized Konoha’s defensive position 14. Patrols, infiltration attempts, and skirmishes escalated into a full-scale assault on Konoha’s frontline camp 18 33. After the major battle, the front settled into attrition around a river that Sand Ninja had to cross to attack and retreat 41.
