History

Early reputation

Shrek is publicly regarded as the continent’s premier Soul Master Academy and has won tournament championships for roughly a millennium. Its reputation grants it considerable prestige among the citizens and Soul Master families of the three Douluo nations. 127 132

The academy is also portrayed as controlling a disproportionate share of Soul Master resources. This influence causes some nobles and academies to view a rival capable of challenging Shrek as a useful counterbalance. 134

Expulsions and the ambush controversy

Feng Piaoling and several other gifted students were expelled after a conflict involving Zhou Yi. After their departure, they were attacked by six assailants; the surviving Soul Emperor identified himself as an Outer Courtyard teacher from Shrek Academy before Feng killed him. 79

Yan Shaozhe publicly expelled Zhou Yi and demoted Fan Yu while ordering an investigation into the attack. Privately, he acknowledged that Feng’s exceptional talent made a lasting grudge against Shrek dangerous. 81

The incident became the foundation for Feng’s hostility toward the academy. He and the former students formed the Soul Hall, vowing to remember their grievance against Shrek. 79

The Shrek Threat Theory

Feng Piaoling promotes Shrek as the greatest obstacle to the Sun Moon Empire’s continental unification. His strategy is to portray the academy as a refuge for Evil Soul Masters, isolate it politically, and encourage the three Douluo nations to turn against it. 85 87 88

His accusations gain traction because of Shrek’s alleged history of students disappearing after leaving the academy and because former Shrek students publicly appear under the Sun Moon Imperial Soul Master Academy banner. 118 130 154

Soul Master Tournament

Decline and Collapse

Following the tournament, Shrek loses major personnel and students. Dai Yueheng is killed, Xu Sanshi and Gongyang Mo are killed, Ma Xiaotao and Wang Ying are taken by Evil Soul Masters, and Zhang Lexuan, Ling Luochen, and Xixi leave the academy. 174

Zhou Yi is blamed for driving Feng Piaoling away and is crippled and disfigured by Xuan Zi. Fan Yu later abandons her. 175

Shrek’s conflict with the Soul Hall continues to damage its standing. Feng Piaoling eventually defeats Yan Shaozhe, a level 95 Super Douluo and dean of Shrek’s Martial Soul Department. 195

Rumors that Shrek harbors Evil Soul Masters, combined with the exposed pursuit of a withdrawn talented student, cause Soul Master families to sever ties with the academy. Student enrollment declines for two consecutive years, and many students fail to return after holidays. 218

By the time Shrek suspends enrollment and begins total-war preparations, the academy is described as unable to attract worthwhile new students, while the Soul Hall establishes competing academies and provides low-cost Martial Soul awakenings for commoners. 228
