Background / History

The Snow Empress was born from the Far North’s Ultimate Ice and Snow, condensed to its extreme and nurtured over countless years. She is the world’s only Heavenly Snow Woman and has no parents, siblings, or natural kin. By the beginning of the story, she is the Far North’s supreme ruler, with nearly 700,000 years of cultivation 1.

A celestial disturbance draws her to a human infant surviving unharmed in the Extreme North Core Zone. His aura resembles her own origin so closely that she experiences something like a bloodline bond. She theorizes that he possesses a rare ice-attribute constitution capable of awakening the Heavenly Snow Woman martial soul and decides to raise him 1 2.

She names him Xue Bingchen, combining “Xue” from her name, “Bing” from the Ice Empress’s name, and “chen” for the mortal world. Initially, his continued protection depends on awakening the expected martial soul at six. After three years of raising him, however, she promises to protect him regardless of his cultivation ability 3 8.

She judges danger rationally rather than sentimentally: after hearing Xiao Wu’s account of her mother’s death, she acknowledges the motive for revenge but bluntly condemns human transformation without the strength to survive 21 48.

Her tenderness is reserved chiefly for Xue Bingchen and the Ice Empress. Motherhood changes her initial, conditional interest in the infant into unconditional protection, although she remains a demanding instructor. She worries about his short human lifespan and hopes to cultivate him into a god so that he can escape that limit 7 8 20 48.
