Background / History

Zhu Jiusi is a reincarnator who spent three years in a previous cycle of Journey Survival as a human. Returning to its beginning gives him knowledge of survival rules, cultivation techniques, other seekers, and secret realms 12 21 22 27.

He deliberately chooses the Demon identity and accepts becoming a wild boar without disappointment. Its strong body and ability to forage are more valuable to him than retaining a human appearance. The choice also gives him a Mountain Boar’s twenty-year lifespan: without a breakthrough, he expects to grow old and die within a few years 1 12.

His accumulated experience compensates for the mental impairment caused by his beast form. The narration notes that, without that experience, surviving even the seven-day novice protection period would have been uncertain 17.

Appearance

  • Build: A sturdy, four-legged boar with coarse brown bristles, a pig snout, and prominent tusks 1 21.
  • Size: By the District 33 ambush, his shoulder height exceeds 1.2 meters 46.
  • Tusks: Described as approximately half a foot long during his fight with the Longing Beast 36.
  • Armor: Usually coated in dried river mud that forms a protective layer over his body 18 43 47.
  • Golden Horn: Wears a horn on the bridge of his nose, giving him a “rhino-pig” appearance 43.
  • Seasonal changes: Begins growing fine, dense fur as autumn advances; his appetite also increases 36.

Personality

Zhu Jiusi prioritizes survival over pride, appearance, or the prospect of quickly regaining human form. He accepts the Mountain Master path even though it delays transformation and makes spell cultivation harder. He likewise values an unglamorous Pig Trough because it is useful to his lair 11 47.

He is ruthless toward attackers and persistent provocateurs, but not recklessly committed to every fight. He kills ambushers, tracks fleeing enemies, and uses public combat recordings as deterrents. When he detects a prepared trap, however, he withdraws immediately and attacks later under better conditions 9 13 26 27 46.

His alliances combine practical calculation with judgments of character. Monkey’s extraordinary luck makes friendship profitable, while Sword Seven’s refusal to betray others and Scholar’s reliability make them desirable teammates 47.

Abilities & Skills

Boar Physiology

  • Physical strength: Begins with Life 28, allowing him to overturn an ox cart, shatter bones, and inflict fatal wounds with his tusks 1 9 15.
  • Exceptional smell: Detects objects buried beneath forest mud, tracks people through woodland, and identifies trap components by scent 3 27.
  • Foraging: Eats plant roots and supplements them with insects or mice, freeing other food supplies for trade 12.
  • Cold resistance: Feels no cold while traveling through heavy rain and hail early in the journey 17.
  • Poor vision: Initially cannot clearly see beyond thirty meters and has a blind spot directly in front of his face 3 43.
  • Limited dexterity: Lacks hands and cannot open the tiny, durable Moon Essence Dew bottle without assistance 36.
  • Spiritual vulnerability: His low Nature leaves him susceptible to a zombie’s soul-affecting Corpse Howl 17.

Mountain Master

The Gen Trigram lets him consume basic construction materials to strengthen his physical body 11.

  • Absorbs metal, stone, and wood, converting them into bodily growth 11.
  • Has no stated upper limit to this strengthening method 11.
  • Requires substantial resources; his early stockpile is rapidly exhausted 11.
  • Delays transformation into human form and doubles the difficulty of spell cultivation 11.
  • Competes with lair development for materials, requiring him to balance bodily growth against upgrades 34.

Charging and Tusks

  • Savage Charge: Rams a vampire bat into the dangerous roadside fog to secure the Silver Gourd First Kill 2.
  • Close-range attacks: Combines headbutts, low charges, tusk thrusts, and upward throws to break limbs or strike vital areas 9 15 27.
  • Assault: The Golden Horn produces a sudden forward burst immediately before impact 43.
  • Battlefield control: Uses feints and moves into open terrain when he needs room to charge effectively 48.
  • Additional methods: Can crush an attacker beneath his body and use rolling movements to bring his tusks against another target 37.

Spiritual Cultivation

  • Practices the Spirit Refining Primer, gathering spiritual energy through breathing and converting it into spiritual power 30.
  • Uses Moon Essence Dew to support cultivation and improve his Essence 37 48.
  • At the First Realm’s second layer, directs spiritual power into his hooves to increase speed and prevent discomfort during prolonged running 49.
  • Identifies the third layer as the point where basic combat techniques and spells become learnable; reaching that layer is not documented in the supplied chapters 49.

Previous-Cycle Knowledge

  • Recognizes the Ruins secret realm from its geography and recalls its eventual destruction through ley-line detonations 22 23.
  • Uses slower Walking Corpses as moving obstacles against stronger zombies before gathering the horde around a ley-line node 25.
  • Detects inconsistencies between an enemy’s directions and the actual scent trail 27.
  • Avoids openly practicing remembered cultivation techniques before obtaining them legitimately, fearing enforcement against inexplicable knowledge 22.
  • His knowledge is incomplete: he had never encountered the Thousand Dao River during his previous three-year journey 40.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Scroll — Displays his identity and attributes; supports chat, trading, and recordings. It can also become a mirror, allowing him to inspect the horn on his nose 1 3 43.
  • Crude Clairvoyant — A telescope purchased from White Beard’s Fist for two steamed buns. Shows large objects within three miles despite his poor natural vision 3.
  • Beast Nest / Pig Nest — His shelter, modified for mobility and portability. By the group exchange meeting, its leather interior resembles a sofa 16 29 47.
  • Disaster Summoning — A special nest attribute selected after the third modification. He chooses it to help obtain the monster drops needed for further upgrades 30 34.

  • Pig Trough — Obtained from the District 33 attackers’ loot and integrated into his lair over a full day 47.

  • Wolf-skin rug — Made by Heals Stomach Not Body from wolf remains. Provides a luxury sleeping surface despite its prickly fur and lingering musk 48.

  • White Beard’s Fist — Sells him the Crude Clairvoyant and later participates in the group’s loot distribution and item exchange 3 47.
  • Heals Stomach Not Body — Processes his wolf carcasses and makes his wolf-skin rug. Zhu Jiusi is disappointed in his cooking but appreciates the rug 37 48.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Novice Survival

Zhu Jiusi first learns to stand and run on four legs, then earns the Silver Gourd First Kill by disposing of a vampire bat in the fog. He accepts a Myriad Worlds Announcement rather than concealing the achievement, securing its additional reward 2.

He trades for a telescope, investigates Journey Survival’s rules, and warns other seekers about daily travel requirements and the penalties for backtracking. His discoveries establish him as a prominent figure in District 66 3 4 5.

Retaliation and Lair Development

After exposing Heart Without Darkness, Zhu Jiusi uses a Dao Discussion Card to reach and attack him directly 5 13 14.

He subsequently defeats Filial Respect to Mother through physical combat. The opponent’s Destiny Breaker: Life Hunter fails its attribute check; it is not Zhu Jiusi’s weapon. The resulting loot supplies his first nest modification 15.

Valley of the Dead / Ruins

The mandatory first secret realm assigns Zhu Jiusi the role of a sacrificial pig. He coordinates an escape with Rain Seeker and Monkey Has Iron Rod, whose performance as a Taoist persuades the villagers to let them leave 21 22.

Recognizing the realm from his previous cycle, he earns points by detonating ley-line nodes. When hostile seekers lure a zombie horde toward him, he turns their attack into an opportunity to gather the zombies around a larger node 22 23 25.

His underground escape nearly fails: a pursuing Green-Haired Zombie shields him from the initial heat wave. After emerging, he kills ambushers and tracks their associates, drawing the attention of an Enforcer who accuses him of destroying the realm 26 27.

Third Modification and Cultivation

After leaving the realm early, he arranges loans and favors with strong seekers to help secure an advantage in the modification race. He becomes District 66’s first seeker to complete the third modification, selects Disaster Summoning, and begins practicing the Spirit Refining Primer 29 30.

His retaliation also brings him into conflict with a Land God. He later warns others that provoking it nearly killed him 31 33.

Small Market and District Merger

During Rain Seeker’s market operation, Zhu Jiusi learns that the Thousand Dao River allows outsiders to cross between districts. He raises the alarm and fights the invading Strongwoman in an evenly matched clash while District 66 wins the market competition 40 41.

Following the district merger, he helps defeat attackers targeting Monkey. The group distributes loot and exchanges equipment, giving him the Pig Trough and Beast Skeleton for his nest 44 45 46 47.

He then defeats a giant python using feints, open terrain, his nest, and Assault. Continued cultivation culminates in control over spiritual power and substantially faster travel 48 49.
