As Landugger's declaration of punishment was spoken, the Flayed Ones suddenly attacked.

Yao En understood the C'tan's temperament somewhat and knew these brutal creatures were capable of anything.

Yet even Burner, renowned for brutality, had not killed the Sons of Angels who refused to kneel before him. Landugger, however, had launched an attack over a minor breach of etiquette. This convinced Yao En that he absolutely could not be allowed out.

Even as he fought, Yao En considered what exactly this Landugger was. Was it parasitizing some Necron individual that had been transformed into a Flayed One, or was something that had not been completely destroyed beginning to awaken?

Or had a Gestalt Will merely arisen among these Flayed Ones, imagining itself to be Landugger, creator of the Flayed Ones?

Whatever the truth was, it would be best if this Landugger had not truly retained some remnant after being destroyed. Otherwise, even the weakest C'tan could effortlessly kill every mortal of flesh and blood.

Things were moving in a favorable direction. The unusual individual among the Flayed Ones clearly possessed no great combat ability. When a Space Marine opened fire on it, all it could do was raise a hand to block the attack, then pull out some unknown piece of junk and throw it as a weapon.

Yao En was grateful that his opponent was weak. He used his Shoulder Cannon to blast open a path and found an opportunity to break through in the direction opposite the heavily guarded entrance.

A vast number of Flayed Ones had long since blocked the only route back to the entrance. They were also happy to see these people driven deeper into the abandoned Webway, where even more terrifying things awaited.
