Ling Yuan was assigned to assist Huang Yan's training after he joined Martial Soul Hall because both possessed fire-attribute martial souls. Their long-standing closeness led them to address one another as sister and brother. Although she concealed it, Ling Yuan had feelings for Huang Yan and was bitterly affected by his relationship with Shui Bing'er. 16

Azure Luan Douluo personally arranged her involvement in Huang Yan's instruction. Ling Yuan refrained from confessing her affection because she considered their age difference substantial and was uncertain of Huang Yan's feelings toward her. 16

She challenged Huang Yan to a controlled spar at Spirit Hall Academy, suppressing her soul power to approximately level 75. His amplified Phoenix Fire Burning Heaven damaged her Fire Luan Armor and forced her to use her sixth soul skill defensively, earning her genuine respect for his growth. 77

Ling Yuan subsequently invited Huang Yan and Shui Bing'er to the Star Dou Great Forest to hunt a 50,000-year Blazing Fire Luan Bird.
