If ninjas were placed in other worlds, what kind of military unit would they be?
Hyuga Kiyonari believes they are light infantry.
Camouflage, infiltration, reconnaissance, assassination... powerful individual firepower combined with low defensive capabilities, extreme mobility in three-dimensional space, and the ability to conduct long-range raids with foot speed surpassing that of horses... they are simply the perfect light infantry.
Coincidentally, Hyuga Kiyonari happens to know a thing or two about light infantry tactics.
Thus, Tsunade said to them: "From here on, I will completely break you up and reorganize you into squads of three to four people."
"In each squad, one person will be responsible for the assault. They must possess powerful frontal combat capabilities, such as ninjas from the Uchiha clan."
"One person will be responsible for covering the assault, requiring a certain level of reconnaissance and combat ability, such as those from the Hyuga, Inuzuka, or Aburame clans."
"The remaining person will be responsible for support. They must have sufficient adaptability to make decisions based on the battlefield situation when an assault is thwarted. At the same time... they must also master basic medical knowledge and be responsible for the squad's supply replenishment."
"In squads lacking sufficient frontal combat capability, a fourth person will be added. With this, a combat unit capable of independent operations is formed."
As soon as these words were spoken, a wave of restlessness immediately rippled through the previously silent and quiet ranks.
Some ninjas wore expressions of surprise and confusion; being broken up and reorganized meant they would have to fight alongside people they were unfamiliar with. With the battlefield looming, was it really appropriate to make such a decision on the fly?
Tsunade spread her hands and pressed them downward, signaling them to quiet down: "I am the commander of this force. You only need to execute my orders; I will bear the responsibility for any consequences!"
Then, she continued to elaborate on the tactical structure.
"Moving up, every three squads will be organized into a platoon. Each squad will maintain its designated role: one group for assault, one for cover, and another for support. Each platoon will have an experienced platoon leader in command, a role that will be filled by a Jonin."
"Moving up further, three platoons will form a company, and three companies can form a small combat group, and so on. For operations larger than a company, I will transmit instructions and missions remotely through the secret techniques of the Yamanaka clan."
"In this way, each squad can operate independently while being able to support one another at any time, forming a tightly connected, synergistic whole."
The name of this tactic is the Human Wave Tactics.
It is a tactic that gradually formed to circumvent the enemy's firepower advantage, with its core lying in dispersion.
From small three-man combat teams to large combat clusters, once the troops are fully spread out, they can fully deploy their combat posture in terms of both front width and reserve depth.
And in the eyes of the enemy, there will be a feeling that people are everywhere and firepower is omnipresent.
Just as they hide here, fire breaks out there. Take out one point, and another wave of people arrives. Closer and closer, more and more as the fighting continues. Like waves, it brings intense pressure to the enemy.
Consequently, if the enemy does not understand these tactics, they will very rashly define them as "human sea" tactics.
In reality, it should be like waves advancing in layers, one after another, with each wave higher than the last.
After bringing these tactics to the ninja world, it was discovered, quite unexpectedly... damn, it fits as if it were born for it!
Because of the unique nature of ninjas, once the tactics are deployed, a company of 27 people is enough to control a front line of two thousand meters.
Moreover, this tactic is not entirely unfamiliar to ninjas.
Take the team of Kakashi Hatake as an example. In this squad, Kakashi's Chidori possesses ultra-high piercing speed, which often places him in the main assault position, while Obito Uchiha's Great Fireball Technique has a wide range and is usually used to cover Kakashi's assault, with Rin Nohara, who mastered medical ninjutsu, serving in the support position.
However, they ventured too deep during the Battle of Kannabi Bridge, fighting in isolation and unable to form synergy with other teams, and their only reinforcements, Namikaze Minato, was a very busy man.
Or take the Team 7 of Naruto Uzumaki; Sasuke Uchiha mostly mastered lethal skills and served as the main attacker, while Naruto Uzumaki often took on the cover role, using the Multi Shadow Clone and Transformation Technique to create conditions for Sasuke's assault, with Sakura Haruno serving in the support position.
But the roles of cover and main assault were not fixed; in the final battle against Kaguya Otsutsuki, Sasuke also used Amaterasu to cover Naruto's movements.
In general, the essence of these three roles is: assault—seizing the target's actions; cover—creating the conditions for success; support—contingency plans for dealing with changes. Assault and cover are like two feet; they need to move alternately to drive the whole forward.
Except for Team 7 and the Ino-Shika-Cho, other Genin teams, such as the Team 3 led by Might Guy and the Team 8 led by Kurenai Yuhi, are basically specialized types.
Once these two teams lose their Jonin leaders, they cannot act independently and can only cooperate with other teams, taking on similar responsibilities within that larger force.
Similar but not identical—this is why Hyuga Kiyonari said that this force could, to a certain extent, replace the role of Genin teams.
Despite the excellent theory, some people still couldn't help but stand up.
"Lady Tsunade!"
A middle-aged ninja wearing the clothing of the Nara clan spoke up: "Are we of the Ino-Shika-Cho also to be broken up and dispersed into different squads?"
"That's right," another ninja from the Yamanaka clan echoed, "We of the Ino-Shika-Cho have trained together since childhood, and our clan's secret techniques rely on mutual coordination. If we are broken up, it will seriously reduce our combat effectiveness!"
"And us Uchiha!" a hot-headed young Uchiha ninja shouted as well, "We have specialized coordination tactics for the Sharingan; how could we possibly achieve the same effect with others?"
In an instant, more and more people raised objections.
Their reasons were all well-founded; the tacit understanding cultivated over a long period cannot be established overnight, and rashly breaking them up would lead to coordination failures, which could be fatal vulnerabilities on the battlefield.
Tsunade stood there quietly, letting the discussions below grow louder and louder.
There was no expression on her face; she just watched it all calmly, the setting sun behind her looking like a burning flame.
Shisui Uchiha stood to the side, and as the pen in his hand stopped, his scarlet Sharingan instantly locked onto the Uchiha ninja who had just spoken.
Just as he was thinking about what to do, Tsunade moved.
She didn't speak, her hands still crossed over her chest, only one index finger slightly raised.
"BOOM!"
A powerful burst of chakra erupted instantly; the rock beneath her feet was covered in cracks in an instant, and countless fragments splattered everywhere.
All the discussions vanished.
"Listen up."
Tsunade's voice became the only sound permitted in this silence.
"I am not here to negotiate with you, but to issue orders!"
"You ask if the Ino-Shika-Cho will be broken up? I'm telling you now: if necessary, the Ino-Shika-Cho will be broken up too! Here, no one is special, and no one is allowed to be special!"
