Background / History

Before ascending, Poseidon was a mortal who traveled with Xiao Bai, the king of the Demon Soul Great White Sharks, as his mount and guardian. Sea God Island preserves this as part of its history. 120

Poseidon and the Angel God ascended from Douluo Continent roughly ten thousand years before the story. Over that period, his lineage failed to find a suitable successor. 15 4

When Ye Qing awakened a Seraphim Martial Soul on Sea God Island, Poseidon nevertheless placed the Sea God inheritance upon him. The Seven Sacred Pillars and Sea God Hall responded, a golden trident mark appeared on Ye Qing's forehead, and the inheritance formed a connection between Ye Qing's soul and the ocean. 2

The choice provoked a dispute with the Angel God, who considered Ye Qing—whose Seraphim belongs to the angel lineage—her natural successor. The God Realm Committee ultimately rejected forced arbitration and allowed Ye Qing to decide which inheritance to accept. 3 5

Personality

Poseidon is fiercely possessive of Ye Qing as his chosen successor. He treats the Angel God's attempts to recruit Ye Qing as theft, openly confronting her temple and repeatedly demanding that she return “his” successor. 23

His desperation comes from a larger ambition: he hopes Ye Qing's extraordinary talent may help him break through to God King level. This makes him willing to ignore the mismatch between Ye Qing's light-and-fire Seraphim Martial Soul and the Sea God position. 4 23

He is also pragmatic and manipulative when protecting his inheritance. He bypasses his own succession rules by sending Ye Qing the Sea God Trident before the required trials, and later pressures Bo Saixi to pursue Ye Qing so the successor will remain tied to the Sea God lineage. 8 36

Despite his divine status, Poseidon is volatile and prone to public outbursts when the Angel God is involved. He attacks Tang Hao after receiving Qian Daoliu's letter, then reacts with particular anger upon learning that the Angel God may be competing through marriage. 108 34 36
