But after getting a clear look at the vampires on the ground, Solam realized he had been wrong. He could tell that those vampires were nothing more than newly transformed rookies! Strictly speaking, they were not true vampires yet, but blood thralls.
After a human received a vampire's Embrace, they did not become a vampire overnight. There was an intermediate stage, known as the blood thrall stage. At this point, they did not possess most of a vampire's spell-like abilities. At most, they gained boosts to strength and agility, along with regenerative abilities.
After all, the original flesh-and-blood body needed time to adapt to negative energy. Blood thralls had only just completed their physical transformation; internally, they still needed time to evolve.
It was precisely because they were in this awkward stage that blood thralls tended to be somewhat muddleheaded and were highly susceptible to bloodlust, becoming utterly mad. This was also why there were not actually many vampires on the continent. It was not merely because the Embrace came at a cost, but because blood thralls lacked self-control and were easily discovered and killed.
Just like the current situation, the vampires frantically attacking the living were mostly still in the blood thrall stage. They had all fallen into madness, each one bloodthirsty and crazed beyond measure.
