Lake Weng was the largest freshwater lake in northern Amn and also the highest-elevation lake in the country. It was the Athkatla River's most important source of water. When the two headwater rivers flowing down from the Cloud Peaks entered their dry season in winter, this freshwater lake ensured that the Athkatla River could continue flowing normally.

Although it was Amn's second-largest freshwater lake, Lake Weng had not been developed very well. There were few villages around it, and hardly any fishermen dared to fish in its waters.

The reason was that Lake Weng lay too close to the Cloud Peaks. Monsters ran rampant here, and whenever the lake froze in winter, many monsters would cross directly from the Cloud Peaks into areas inhabited by humans.

If they failed to hold the line, perhaps prosperous Crimmor would one day become just like the villages here.
