Monsters were naturally inclined toward chaos, so without strict supervision, calling them patrols was less accurate than calling them wanderers. They disliked this meaningless work. Rather than loafing around the territory, they would much rather follow the main force into human lands, where they could not only fight but also satisfy their appetites.
Not to mention humans themselves—most of these monsters ate people. And compared to human flesh, human food was actually quite popular among monsters as well, especially alcohol. There was hardly any kind of monster that did not enjoy a drink.
