Background

Nagato was an Uzumaki descendant who possessed the Rinnegan, though the eyes were later revealed to have originated from Madara Uchiha rather than from Nagato himself. The discovery shook his understanding of his identity and the peace he had pursued through the Rinnegan. 163

While operating from a hidden life-support apparatus, Nagato controlled the Six Paths of Pain from afar. His body was emaciated and pierced by black receivers, but he remained composed and continued directing Akatsuki's surveillance and preparations. 150 162
