Background / History
Tang San returned to Nuoding City with his teacher Yu Xiaogang after acquiring his first soul ring. Yu Xiaogang regarded Tang San—an Innate Full Soul Power owner with Twin Martial Souls—as the key to proving his own martial-soul theories, while Tang San remained outwardly respectful and diligent under his instruction. 35
After Yu Xiaogang confronted Lin Ye and Qian Renxue over perceived disrespect, Tang San intervened on his teacher's behalf. Confident in his Tang Sect techniques, he challenged Lin Ye, only to be defeated without Lin Ye needing to summon his martial soul. Tang San's Blue Silver Entanglement was burned away, his Silent Sleeve Arrow missed, and his Mysterious Jade Hand was broken. He considered launching a hidden-weapon ambush afterward but stopped when Lin Ye exposed his four-ring Soul Ancestor cultivation. 37 38
Tang Hao later sought revenge for Tang San's humiliation, but Qian Daoliu defeated him. Years afterward, Tang San confronted Lin Ye again at Nuoding Academy while attempting to save Xiao Wu. Lin Ye's six-ring Soul Emperor cultivation and hundred-thousand-year soul ring overwhelmed him completely; Tang Hao's intervention allowed Tang San to escape, but Tang Hao was killed by Lin Ye and Xiao Wu was slain. 124 132
Bai He rescued Tang San and brought him to Star Luo City. In the aftermath of Tang Hao and Xiao Wu's deaths, Tang San accepted Ning Fengzhi's offer to join the Heaven Dou Empire, intending to use its resources, the Upper Three Sects, and the two empires to destroy Martial Soul Hall and avenge his losses. He supplied the Empire with blueprints for Tang Sect hidden weapons and received protection and cultivation support from Clear Sky Sect members. 132 134
During the Soul Master Tournament finals, Tang San faced Shui Bing'er despite recognizing that he was individually weaker. He was decisively defeated and humiliated even after revealing his Clear Sky Hammer. 168 170 During the later conflict between Martial Soul Hall and the allied forces, he hid beneath the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud until the Sea God's consciousness emerged to shield him from Lin Ye. 184 185
Personality
Tang San initially presents himself as respectful toward Yu Xiaogang and committed to cultivation. However, he reacts aggressively to insults against his teacher and repeatedly overestimates the advantage provided by his secret techniques, martial souls, and hidden weapons. 35 37 124
After Tang Hao and Xiao Wu die, revenge becomes his defining motive. He resolves to overthrow Martial Soul Hall, kill Lin Ye, and use allied political and military power to achieve that goal. 132 133 His hatred extends to Lin Ye's associates; before fighting Shui Bing'er, he states that he will not show mercy to anyone close to Lin Ye. 169
