|---|---|---|
| Byakugan and Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms | 8 | Activates the Byakugan and uses pressure-point strikes in a spar with Naruto; her current limit is the Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms. Naruto’s chakra reserves render her tenketsu attacks ineffective against him. 8 |
| Chakra nourishment and Yin Seal | 18 | Naruto transfers chakra into her and establishes a Yin Seal on her forehead. The seal stores chakra, nourishes her body, increases her reserves, and is intended to support the possible evolution of her Byakugan. 18 |
| Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm | 52 | Seeks instruction from Hiashi in the Hyūga clan’s long-range technique. Her enhanced chakra reserves allow her to train in a technique ordinarily reserved for Hyūga jōnin. 52 |
| Mangekyō Sharingan awakening | 57 | Awakens a Mangekyō Sharingan alongside Naruto after their first kiss; her individual ocular techniques are not documented. 57 |
| Water-aligned Sage Mode | 157 | Fails to adapt to fire natural energy but successfully resonates with water energy and enters Sage Mode at rest. 157 |
| Sage Mode demonstration | 160 | Demonstrates a Sage Mode shaped by Naruto’s method. It enhances her combat ability considerably, though she considers it inadequate because it is slow to enter and not yet suited to combat activation. 160 |
| Kage-level assessment | 199 | Naruto estimates that Sage Mode places her around Kage level, while noting that the category contains a wide range of strength. 199 |
Background
Hinata initially attends the Academy as a quiet, easily overlooked Hyūga heiress. She is shy around Naruto to the point of stuttering and blushing, but Naruto’s repeated greetings gradually stop her from fainting at the sight of him. 3 8
She secretly observes Naruto’s physical training and attempts to copy it, but cannot complete even one set because her body cannot withstand it. When Naruto discovers her, he explains that strength should be cultivated to protect the people one cares for rather than to impress others. His encouragement gives her a concrete reason to train: protecting her father, sister, and Naruto. 7 8
Naruto later invites her to spar and discovers the limits of her current fighting style. Hinata sees his overwhelming chakra through her Byakugan, while Naruto urges her not to hold back and trains her in water walking, chakra needles, and taijutsu. 8 12 13
In their final Academy year, Hinata becomes Naruto’s desk mate and grows more comfortable around him. She is ultimately assigned to Team 7 with Naruto and Sasuke under Kakashi Hatake. 18 24
Appearance
Hinata is introduced wearing black clothes, with short ear-length black hair, large eyes, and the Hyūga clan’s pure white pupils. 3
- Later grows her jet-black hair long after learning that Naruto likes long hair. 18
- Bears a small red Yin Seal mark on her forehead, normally hidden by her bangs. 18
- Her Sage Mode manifests red eye shadow, slightly pointed ears, sharper features, and red vertical pupils. 160
Personality
Hinata is gentle, reserved, and considerate of others’ boundaries. When Naruto handles Sasuke’s chakra in private, she deactivates her Byakugan rather than intrude on something he does not want observed. 12
Her affection for Naruto is the main force behind her growing confidence and determination. She trains until her hands bleed to keep pace with him, even though Hiashi worries that her motivation is centered on a boy. 24 36
She is compassionate toward Neji despite his hostility and remains troubled by the Caged Bird Seal and the clan system that hurt him. 27 61 However, her admiration for Naruto can become self-doubt: seeing his strength repeatedly makes her question whether she can stand beside him. 31 115 151
After Naruto’s defection, Hinata blames herself for having questioned him about Danzō’s death. She becomes withdrawn, haggard, and plagued by nightmares until Naruto later reconnects with her. 93 111
Abilities & Skills
Byakugan
Hinata’s Byakugan allows her to observe chakra and employ the Hyūga clan’s close-combat techniques.
- Detects the extraordinary chakra within Naruto’s body during their first spar. 8
- Activates immediately when Sasuke follows Naruto and her after school. 12
- Cannot comfortably examine Naruto at full power; his chakra appears as blinding as the sun to her. 64
- Her Byakugan’s concentration is described as the highest in the Hyūga clan. 18
Gentle Fist and Tenketsu Strikes
Hinata specializes in chakra-infused taijutsu that targets an opponent’s chakra network and internal organs.
- Uses pressure-point strikes and the Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms as an Academy student. 8
- Learns to prioritize the Gentle Fist against a mud-armored boar, striking near its heart after her chakra-point attacks prove ineffective. 34
- Defeats a second boar while protecting the injured Sasuke. 34
- Uses the Gentle Fist against Naruto in the Chūnin Exams; he withstands the barrage without injury. 64
- Her technique remains ineffective against opponents with overwhelming chakra or durability, including Naruto. 8 60 64
Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm
A long-range Hyūga technique that projects chakra from the palms.
- Pursues the technique after being unable to meaningfully contribute in several major battles. 50 52
- Her Yin Seal’s reserves make its training possible despite her originally insufficient chakra. 52
- Uses it in her attrition battle against Tenten and wins through superior chakra endurance. 61
Yin Seal
Naruto gives Hinata a Yin Seal that stores chakra and sustains her body.
- Stores excess chakra in a small mark on her forehead. 18
- Nourishes her physique and raises her available chakra reserves. 18
- Requires replenishment after extended use; Naruto refills it during their reunion. 56 115
Sage Mode
Hinata learns a water-aligned Sage Mode under Naruto’s instruction in space.
- Is temperamentally more compatible with water natural energy than fire energy. 157
- Initially can only enter the form while still; Naruto considers this unsuitable for battle. 157
- Trains through sparring with Himawari to enter Sage Mode while moving. 157
- Greatly enhances her taijutsu-focused combat ability and places her among the Ninja World’s top fighters, despite her own dissatisfaction with its limitations. 160
Equipment
- Konoha forehead protector — Keeps it during her period of guilt after Naruto’s defection. 93
- Flying Thunder God-marked kunai — Given by Naruto as a means to contact him if needed. 115
Relationships
- Naruto Uzumaki — Childhood friend, teammate, trainer, and romantic partner. Naruto encourages her training, strengthens her with the Yin Seal, and repeatedly protects her; Hinata’s future daughter identifies them as her parents. 8 18 57 153 212
- Himawari Uzumaki — Future daughter from Hinata and Naruto’s future. Hinata learns of her existence in shock, then bonds with her over their shared concern for Naruto and Boruto. 153
- Boruto Uzumaki — Future son. Hinata learns from Himawari that she and Naruto will have two children. 153
- Hyūga Hiashi — Father. He is concerned by her punishing training regimen and disapproves of Naruto’s influence and their relationship. 36 61

- Hatake Kakashi — Team 7’s jōnin instructor. He later joins Tsunade and Jiraiya in seeking information from Hinata about Naruto’s actions. 24 159
- Tenten — Chūnin Exams opponent. Hinata defeats her in a long-range, chakra-draining battle. 61
- Nagato — Attempts to abduct Hinata because of her connection to Naruto. Naruto arrives before Nagato can harm her. 211 212

Future Revelation and Sage Training

Trivia
- In the Infinite Tsukuyomi world, Hinata has a notably fiery and aggressive personality while concealing it behind a polite façade around Naruto. 128 129
- Naruto recognizes that Hinata’s greatest motivation for strength is receiving acknowledgment from him and Hiashi, rather than the power itself. 157
