Background / History

Shrek Academy had dominated the continent for ten thousand years and stood above the imperial powers of the Douluo Three Kingdoms through its prestige, association with deities, and ability to rally opposition to the Sun Moon Empire. Its reputation was so entrenched that ordinary citizens of the Heaven Spirit Empire treated an investigation by two Shrek students as righteous judgment, while their emperor believed the academy could not be provoked. 15 53

The academy maintained an Inner Court and an Inspectorate. Its members carried exceptional political weight; Ning Que and Ye Guyi, as inner-court core disciples and Inspectorate members, were protected by two hidden Title Douluo during their mission to the Heaven Spirit Empire. 15

Its true deterrence was exposed when Mu En—the level 99 Limit Douluo known as the Dragon God, long believed dead—appeared to defend the academy from Shi Jian. The revelation immediately changed other factions’ assessment of Shrek’s strength. 19

Following Mu En’s severe injury in the conflict with the Nine Treasures Glazed Sect, the academy was forced to seek that sect’s healing aid. Its dependence on Mu En became clear: the elders struggled to decide matters without him, and the sect extracted a 290,000-year Diamond Mammoth torso bone, five Golden Tree branches, and one year of unrestricted cultivation in the Golden Tree hollow for two members. 23

Despite its renown, its practices drew criticism. Xiao Hongchen found only repetitive theory lessons and sparring over three days, with no professional plan for training or improving strength. 146

The academy also maintained practices later described as absurd despite having the means to avoid them. Qian Duoduo’s New Beginning Soul Master Academy was expected not to reproduce those regulations. 183

Mu En acknowledged that Shrek had accumulated a century of problems and declared that it must return to its original identity as “just an academy.” His reforms included equal treatment for the Soul Guidance and Martial Soul Departments and selective cultivation of students. 93

Conflict with the Nine Treasures Glazed Sect

A dispute involving Shrek escalated when Xuan Zi responded aggressively to an incident involving academy disciples. Shi Jian then attacked Shrek Academy, injuring Xuan Zi and forcing Mu En to reveal himself. 18 19

Though Mu En recognized that Shrek had been manipulated and that its own abnormal response had enabled the situation, the academy still paid a high price to secure his treatment afterward. 19 23

Student and Staff Departures

Ning Que recruited many of Shrek’s top students into the Nine Treasures Glazed Sect, including Jing Ye. Dai Yueheng planned to graduate alongside Zhao Long, while Ma Xiaotao was sealed after becoming effectively crippled. 86

The current Shrek Seven Devils and their substitutes later submitted collective withdrawal applications. Mu En responded with reforms, but Xuan Zi opposed both the withdrawals and the changes. 93

Further instability followed when Cai Mei’er and Qian Duoduo departed after their marriages collapsed. Qian Duoduo resigned as dean of the Soul Guidance Department, leaving a major vacuum in the academy’s leadership. 104

War with the Sun Moon Empire

During the continental war, Shrek mobilized extensively. Some members became disillusioned when Sea God Island and the Clear Sky Sect did not join the border battle. 237

The Sun Moon Empire later altered its advance and marched directly on Shrek Academy. Xuan Zi called for a coalition, while Ning Que proposed gathering former students and preparing for the worst, though he secretly intended to further dismantle the academy. 246 247

The battle for Shrek Academy ended with Xuan Zi’s defeat by Kong Deming. Ning Que wounded Kong Deming with spatial power before departing, while the Sea God did not appear to defend the academy. 248

Loss of the Golden Tree and Legacy

By the time Huo Yuhao became a god, Shrek had lost the Golden Tree, its collection of ancient texts, the effective support of deities, and many formerly loyal followers. The Sky Azure Bull Python was not adept at managing the institution, leaving the academy stripped of its former grandeur. 264

Shrek City subsequently fell into disorder, with bullying and oppression widespread under the descendants of the former Douluo Three Kingdoms’ nobility. 266
