Hiruzen witnessed Hashirama’s power, Tobirama’s establishment of the Ninja Academy, and three Ninja World Wars. By the Chūnin Exams, he has ruled Konoha for more than thirty years. Tobirama chose him over Danzō as Hokage—a decision that remains central to Danzō’s resentment 190 225.

Hiruzen and Danzō fought back-to-back for decades, earning their reputations through bloody battles. During Kumogakure’s earlier attempt to abduct Hinata, Asuma killed a member of the Cloud delegation. His concern for reputation extends to suppressing evidence of the leadership’s crimes. When Koharu speaks openly about their role in the Uchiha massacre, he signals Danzō and Homura to kill the guards outside, then intimidates her into repeating the official account. He immediately resumes his friendly demeanor afterward 23.

Rejuvenation strengthens his possessiveness as well as his confidence. He privately declares that Konoha belongs to the Sarutobi Clan and regards Qingwu’s influence over the next generation as a threat.
