Yuhi Shinku didn't mind what Yuki Yuichi had said earlier. Instead, he patiently explained, "Genjutsu lets you get away with slacking off right out in the open."
"It'll make it easier for you two to survive on the battlefield than other ninja."
Yuki Yuichi looked at Yuhi Shinku in surprise. He hadn't expected someone who looked so honest and straightforward to have such a little scheme.
"What are you looking at me for?" Yuhi Shinku continued, exasperated. "From now on, you two are genjutsu ninja."
"Whether you are or not, that's what you'll tell people."
Yuhi Kurenai seemed puzzled by what Yuhi Shinku had said. She raised her hand and asked, "If we're talking about surviving more easily, wouldn't medical ninja be better?"
At his daughter's question, Yuhi Shinku sighed. His daughter really was a silly girl.
"Medical ninja are support ninja. They basically have no combat ability."
"If the enemy spots them or ambushes them, they're pretty much as good as dead."
"But genjutsu ninja are different. They're regular ninja who specialize in genjutsu. You can hide somewhere on the battlefield and cast genjutsu on people."
"You'll be somewhere safe, and no one will know whether you've cast a genjutsu."
"If your genjutsu is strong enough, you can even control a weaker enemy and have them fight in your place."
"That gives you a much better chance of surviving, and unlike medical ninja, you'll still have some combat ability."
As he spoke, Yuhi Shinku patted his daughter on the head.
"Remember, surviving on the battlefield is the most important thing."
"I can't look after you two forever, but until then, I'll teach you the secrets of staying alive."
"This is the way a jonin like me survives."
"When you see danger, stay far away from it. Got it?"
Yuhi Kurenai nodded, only half understanding, then glanced at Yuki Yuichi, who was nodding furiously beside her.
"Uncle Shinku's right. Let other people risk their lives. We just have to survive."
Yuhi Shinku was quite pleased by Yuki Yuichi's words. The boy was growing up and starting to see things his way.
"All right, training starts tomorrow. Go play." Yuhi Shinku waved them off, turned the TV back on, and let Yuki Yuichi and Yuhi Kurenai do as they pleased.
Yuhi Kurenai chose to stay home, while Yuki Yuichi bolted outside like a dog off its leash.
He had a rough idea of how to trigger his Achievement System. Now he could go test it out.
By the time he reached Training Ground Four, not far from the Ninja Academy, seven or eight people were already there.
"Yuichi!" Might Guy spotted Yuki Yuichi and happily waved at him. "Over here!"
Seeing Might Guy, everyone nearby turned to look. Yuki Yuichi glanced around, then walked over as if nothing had happened.
This was where they played ninja games. A few ninja trained here, but there weren't many, and they were used to the kids playing their games.
After all, they weren't the only group playing ninja games here.
There were kids from all around. At a glance, Yuki Yuichi could see four or five groups gathered together.
"Guy, long time no see."
At Yuki Yuichi's words, even someone as thickheaded as Might Guy couldn't help but object.
"How is that a long time? We only parted two hours ago."
Ignoring Might Guy's complaint, Yuki Yuichi looked around and asked curiously, "Where's Kakashi?"
"He went back with Uncle Sakumo."
The one who answered was Uchiha Obito. He adjusted his goggles and stepped forward with a beaming smile.
"I don't remember you being here earlier," Yuki Yuichi said, looking at the delighted Uchiha Obito.
"That's right." Uchiha Obito nodded. "I'm about to take the first step toward becoming Hokage!"
"I'm going to climb all the way to the top, step by step! I'm going to be Hokage!"
Uchiha Obito's voice rang out, drawing everyone's attention. Some of the ninja training nearby couldn't help smiling when they heard him.
How nice. They'd once had similar dreams, but as they grew older, they'd realized those were just dreams.
Dreams were out of reach; ambitions were things you could actually have a chance of achieving.
Hearing Uchiha Obito's words now, they all smiled kindly.
Hearing him, Yuki Yuichi couldn't resist teasing, "Are you going to become Zhao Gao next?"
"What's Zhao Gao? What a weird thing to call someone." Uchiha Obito clenched both fists, looked at Yuki Yuichi, and declared with confidence, "I, Uchiha Obito, challenge you today!"
Yuki Yuichi: "..."
He hadn't forgotten that he was here to test his achievement rewards, so he immediately refused. "No. You can't beat me."
"I don't like picking on the weak."
"You're afraid to fight me, the great Obito!" Uchiha Obito taunted, hands on his hips. "But I guess that makes sense. I'm an Uchiha!"
"It's only natural that you're afraid to fight me."
Seeing him taunt Yuki Yuichi, Nohara Rin couldn't help worrying. "Obito... isn't that a little mean?"
"He really is asking for a beating." Seeing Uchiha Obito acting so smug, Yuki Yuichi decided he couldn't take it anymore.
To hell with testing the achievement quest!
"Come on. Let's see what you've got!"
As soon as Yuki Yuichi spoke, the kids who'd been getting ready to play ninja games stepped back, clearing a space for them.
Uchiha Obito and Yuki Yuichi faced each other and formed the Seal of Confrontation.
As soon as they finished, Uchiha Obito charged without looking back.
Yuki Yuichi charged at him too.
He didn't need any tactics to deal with young Obito.
He'd forgotten plenty of things, but as a Naruto mobile-game fan, he still remembered the game's protagonist very well.
At this point, Obito couldn't use ninjutsu or taijutsu. He couldn't even use the Uchiha's signature shuriken techniques.
Compared with an ordinary civilian child, all Obito had going for him at this age was that he ate better, had learned to refine chakra, and could read.
Other than that, he was useless.
They both charged straight at each other, but when they were three meters apart, Yuki Yuichi slid forward in a low tackle.
He hooked one foot behind Uchiha Obito's knee and gave it a little tug. Obito immediately crashed to the ground.
Uchiha Obito fell flat, while Yuki Yuichi got back to his feet. "You had the guts to challenge me, and that's impressive. But that's the only thing I can praise you for."
"Damn it!" Uchiha Obito had taken quite a spill. The exposed skin on his body was scraped up in several places, and he got back to his feet with a grimace.
"Don't get cocky!"
Uchiha Obito shouted, his face and neck red. "I just wasn't ready!"
"Once I awaken my Sharingan, I'll make you pay!"
