Background and History

Mi enters the Ninja Academy without the ninja dog companion customary for her clan. She tells Keigo that getting close to dogs makes her body go numb and prevents her from thinking clearly; she fears disappointing her mother by failing to follow the clan’s tradition. Keigo suggests another path, and later gives her the ninja cat Shirayuki 8 15 29.

At the Academy, Mi discovers her aptitude for chakra control when she climbs a tree steadily on her first attempt with Keigo’s encouragement. She develops an unconventional fighting style in which Shirayuki becomes an ice blade. After graduation, she joins Keigo and Ruri on Orochimaru’s team 18 30 31.

Wanting to fight alongside Keigo rather than burden him, Mi continues training after he surpasses his teammates. Keigo captures the Two-Tails, Matatabi, for her, and she agrees to become its jinchūriki. She subsequently trains under the White Snake Sage at Ryūchi Cave and masters Sage Mode 32 46 65 74.

Appearance

Mi has a delicate appearance, blue eyes, and two symmetrical purple horizontal marks on her face. Her Sage Mode changes her eyes to gold while retaining round pupils, and adds red markings around her eyes and a red circle on her forehead 8 15 74 76.

• She reaches 168 centimeters in height by age fourteen, up from approximately 157 centimeters before mastering Sage Mode 74.

Personality

Mi is shy and soft-spoken, but persistent. She trains despite frostbite from practicing with Shirayuki and says she wants to grow strong enough to fight beside her friends. Over time, she becomes more confident and assertive without losing her gentle manner 8 30 76.

She is also attentive to people close to her. Mi recognizes that Keigo may be undertaking something dangerous when he sends her and Ruri away, and later notices Ruri’s distress. Suspecting that Ruri needs help, she follows her to the Hyūga Clan and alerts Keigo when she discovers the plan to brand Ruri with the Caged Bird seal 47 106 107.
