"That really is the mark of a genius!" After hearing Huo Haitian's words, Feng Qingmo nodded in deep agreement.
Including his previous life, he had lived two lifetimes without ever attending college, so he genuinely admired people like her.
"That's not all," Huo Haitian said in a lower voice. "Her physical fitness is already close to the standard for a Martial Artist. More importantly, she's a stunning beauty—the kind who could topple kingdoms..."
Feng Qingmo fell silent. He hadn't expected this burly man, rough around the edges, to be such a gossip.
"Do you know what she specialized in for her master's and doctorate?" Huo Haitian asked, watching him.
Feng Qingmo's heart stirred. He'd come to the Science Division for a checkup, and Huo Haitian had kept bringing up this beautiful woman. Most likely, she was the one who would examine him.
"Medicine?"
"Haha," Huo Haitian chuckled softly. "See? I knew you were smart. But it's not just medicine—it's biotechnology..."
Before he could finish, a cool, melodious voice suddenly rang through the elevator car. "War God Huo Haitian, is it fun to talk about people behind their backs?"
Huo Haitian gaped at the source of the voice, then awkwardly scratched his head and stammered, "I thought there were only cameras in the elevator. Since when could they listen in, too...?"
"Funny you should ask. They were installed just yesterday, and we're testing them now..." After the cool voice finished speaking, the elevator jolted slightly and stopped, apparently reaching its destination.
Feng Qingmo and Huo Haitian exchanged glances, both sensing the other's embarrassment. After a wordless moment, Huo Haitian shrugged and stepped out of the elevator first.
The corridor outside was not dim at all. It was bright as day, and spotlessly clean from end to end.
Huo Haitian was evidently a carefree sort. He soon forgot the awkward moment and led Feng Qingmo onward, before they arrived at an extremely spacious hall.
Once inside, even though Feng Qingmo couldn't see clearly with his eyes, his Spiritual Force could still sense the vastness of the hall. It was over a hundred meters long and wide, and thirty meters high. Strangely, there wasn't a single pillar in it.
The walls and arched ceiling were made of a rigid material that looked incredibly sturdy and resilient. Only with this material could such a huge space remain intact so far underground.
Many researchers in white lab coats were working in the hall. Some went about their business without paying the two any attention. Others glanced up, nodded to Huo Haitian in greeting, and gave Feng Qingmo a curious look before returning to their work. Despite the number of people, the hall was unusually quiet, save for the hum of some machines.
Huo Haitian was clearly familiar with the Science Division. He led Feng Qingmo across the hall and into another corridor, stopping outside a room.
"Knock, knock."
Huo Haitian raised his hand and tapped on the door. A cool voice came from inside. "Come in!"
Huo Haitian shrugged at Feng Qingmo, turned the handle, and pushed the door open.
The spacious room had a huge floor-to-ceiling window. Beyond it stretched an endless beach, dotted with seagulls beneath clear skies. The view made the room feel remarkably comfortable, without the slightest hint of being underground. The virtual technology was clearly exceptionally sophisticated.
"Long time no see, my dear niece," Huo Haitian greeted her with a smile. He reached back and pulled Feng Qingmo to his side. "I've brought him for you..."
Feng Qingmo looked up. A few meters away, behind the desk, stood a blurry figure. She seemed to have long hair, but he couldn't make out anything else. He caught a delicate fragrance on the tip of his nose, though, and somehow knew it wasn't perfume. It was the woman's natural scent.
Only his Spiritual Force could confirm that she was a woman, but Spiritual Force was no substitute for direct sight. He couldn't perceive the peerless beauty Huo Haitian had described.
The woman behind the desk glanced at Feng Qingmo, then quietly looked at Huo Haitian. Her gaze wasn't particularly intimidating, yet Huo Haitian's smile immediately vanished.
"Uh, my dear niece," Huo Haitian said, unconsciously waving a hand as if to sweep away the awkwardness in the air. "I was complimenting you just now. I wasn't saying anything bad..."
A hint of helplessness appeared on the woman's cool face. "All right, Uncle Huo. I'm not upset with you. Go sit on the sofa. I'll examine him first..."
Her voice was clear and pleasant—the same one they had heard in the elevator.
"Feng Qingmo, can you see the chair in front of you? Please sit."
Feng Qingmo nodded, pulled out the chair before him, and sat down.
"Allow me to introduce myself. My surname is Long." She came around from behind the desk, apparently holding a flashlight. As she approached, the delicate fragrance grew stronger.
"Hello, Dr. Long." Perhaps because of the fragrance, Feng Qingmo felt a little nervous.
Dr. Long placed one hand on Feng Qingmo's head and tilted it slightly upward. With her other hand, she switched on the flashlight, shining its strong beam into his pupils.
Although the light was intense, Feng Qingmo didn't find it dazzling.
After examining both eyes in turn, Dr. Long seemed not to have gotten the result she wanted. She turned to Huo Haitian. "Uncle Huo, make yourself comfortable. I'll take him next door for some tests!"
"Sure, go ahead..." Huo Haitian was inspecting a spherical ornament on the coffee table and answered without looking up.
"Come with me..." Dr. Long turned to the opposite wall and operated something. With a soft click, a door slid open in the wall.
A quick scan with his Spiritual Force revealed an even larger room beyond, filled with all kinds of equipment. Feng Qingmo followed close behind Dr. Long into the room.
The door behind them slid shut with a swish.
Dr. Long began operating a screen, then pointed. "Take off your Combat Suit and lie down!"
Feng Qingmo removed his Combat Suit and boots, leaving on only his underclothes. He stepped forward and lay down on a bed that could slide.
"Click. Click."
As soon as he lay down, several metal clamps sprang out of the motorized bed and secured his body.
Startled, Feng Qingmo instinctively tried to figure out what was happening. His Spiritual Force flared in response, instantly spreading throughout the room.
Under normal circumstances, Feng Qingmo kept his Spiritual Force scan at a minimal level. It let him sense his surroundings without picking up anything too sensitive.
Spiritual Force was much like the divine sense of a cultivator in an immortal-fantasy novel. It could penetrate almost anything. Once it crossed a certain threshold, everything nearby became clear as day, and things that blocked ordinary vision couldn't stop it from probing either—for example, clothing!
Now Feng Qingmo's Spiritual Force filled the whole room. Without meaning to, he had pushed past that threshold. The state of every instrument entered his mind, and so did Dr. Long's every movement—
Most importantly, although Dr. Long wore a lab coat, it fit her perfectly and revealed her flawless figure. It clearly wasn't made of any special material, so it couldn't block his Spiritual Force—
And so, a graceful figure appeared in Feng Qingmo's mind, revealed in every detail...
