"Another one of those replies? You're way too slow. The rocket's about to fly out of the galaxy! Hurry it up, we don't have much time."
Yue was getting anxious. Even after all his practice, he still hadn't made the slightest progress in taijutsu.
It was already the year 37 of Konoha. The Second Shinobi World War had just ended, and the Third Shinobi World War was only eight years away.
At the rate he was going, he couldn't even get into the Ninja Academy. He was supposed to start there in a year.
The war had just ended, so this class of students would get to spend six full years at the Ninja Academy. During wartime, they were sent out after only three years—a proper suicide squad.
Chuunibyou God had started pretending to be absorbed in something again. Yue's urging went in one ear and out the other.
The old woman holding Yue saw that it was about time and set him down on the tatami.
"Yue, Grandma's going to make dinner. Have a look at what your parents left you, and be a good boy. Don't go running off."
"Got it, Grandma."
Ever since Yue had become conscious, he hadn't given Grandma a reason to worry. Her concern always made him feel warm inside.
An orphan in both his lives, he was unable to resist the feeling of having family.
When he wasn't training, Yue helped Grandma with whatever he could. Every time, she worried so much that she hovered behind him with her arms out, afraid he might get hurt. Grandma was old, and she doted on him.
Once Grandma went into the kitchen, Yue picked up the wooden box from the floor and gave it a shake.
"It's so light. Doesn't look like there's anything good in here."
He leaned close and examined it carefully.
"Why does this box look so familiar?"
Yue stared at it for a long time, but couldn't figure out why.
With a hint of anticipation, he slowly opened the box. Inside was a photo album.
His hand trembling, Yue took out the album and looked through it carefully.
"This is my dad?
"Why does his outfit look familiar, too?"
Skipping past his dad, he looked closely at his mom.
"As expected of the protagonist's mom—she's gorgeous. No wonder she gave birth to such a handsome guy."
Yue was a proper little boy, with the soft, delicate skin unique to children. Whenever he went out, he was like a toy for the neighborhood aunties. They couldn't resist coming over to pinch his cheeks.
He put down the album and looked further inside. When he spotted a booklet, Yue was ecstatic. Without all his years of training strengthening his willpower, he would've jumped right up.
But the writing on the booklet left him stunned.
"Holy crap! Chinese characters?!"
This was the Naruto world, where everyone used Japanese. A sudden appearance of Chinese characters left Yue dumbfounded and sent a chill down his spine.
"My dad was a transmigrator? Then why did I have to come here?"
Yue's mind had gone blank. He stared at the writing on the booklet until he finally snapped out of it.
More important than all that was the fact that he could train with it.
God-Slaying Art
That was right—the booklet was titled God-Slaying Art. Yue hurriedly opened it and began to read.
The God-Slaying Art wasn't what he'd expected. He'd thought it would be trash in this world, but instead, it was a game-changer.
The God-Slaying Art could train the mind. Once he reached the entry level, he could lock onto an enemy with his thoughts and channel his mental energy into a flying dagger, making it strike wherever his mind directed.
At the intermediate level, he could use his thoughts to distract enemies, making them far easier to kill.
At the advanced level, he could attack with his thoughts, causing enemies to hallucinate. It was similar to sword intent, and could also imbue attacks with elemental properties.
With an ability like this, Yue could keep training indefinitely. It might be of little use against the Kaguya Clan in the later stages, since the God-Slaying Art seemed like a basic manual with a low ceiling. But its ability to strengthen his mind would greatly improve his talent for ninjutsu, his chakra reserves, and his chakra control.
But when he looked at his frail body, his excitement faded.
"With a body like this, my potential's limited. Sigh!"
Noticing there was still something else inside the box, Yue grew curious. The box wasn't big. What else could it possibly hold?
He picked up the box and shook it. A piece of paper fell out. He shook it again, and when nothing else came out, he carefully set the box aside.
He picked up the paper and read it carefully. This time it was in Japanese, which was a bit disappointing. But when he saw what it said, he froze.
Engagement Agreement
I, Senju Hashirama, hereby make an agreement with Shangguan Hong: once Shangguan Hong's child is born,
if it is a boy, he will be engaged to Senju Tsunade;
if it is a girl, she will be engaged to Senju Nawaki.
Some year, some month
The paper was stamped with the seal reserved for the head of the Senju Clan.
"Holy crap! My dad set me up with a rich beauty so I could cling to her from the start!"
When he thought of Senju Tsunade, Yue couldn't help feeling relieved that he'd been born a boy.
But then again, Tsunade was already in her twenties, and she was a jonin. She probably wouldn't be interested in him. Besides, at this point in the original story, she already had her first love, Dan Katō, who was now dead.
"Sigh!
"The revolution's still a long way from succeeding. Comrades, we still have to work hard."
Ever since Yue had come across Naruto videos, he'd been a huge fan of Tsunade. If he could marry her, it would fulfill a childhood fantasy.
Coming back to himself, he looked at the box and his dad's clothes in the photo.
"No wonder they looked so familiar. They're totally Chinese-style—probably hanfu. I'll have to get one for myself someday."
"By the way, Chuunibyou God, how much longer until you're done? Can you at least give me an estimate?"
This time, it didn't hide from him.
"A week at most."
Then it fell silent.
Yue wasn't about to believe it just like that. It had lied before.
Shaking his head, he began studying the training method for Little Li's Flying Daggers. Following the steps, he sat with his arms and legs raised toward the sky and silently recited the mantra.
Gradually, Yue felt his mind grow clear. He could distinctly sense his mental energy slowly strengthening, though it was still very weak.
He kept training until Grandma called him. Only then did he stop. His stomach was ravenous, rumbling loudly.
At the dining table, he said, "I'm digging in!"
He picked up a piece of fish from the table and shoved it into his mouth. Over the years, eating fish was the one thing Yue had mastered.
Now he'd finally learned how to put the fish meat in his mouth and spit out the bones a moment later.
At that moment, in the Senju Mansion, Tsunade was chatting with Uzumaki Mito and Uzumaki Kushina.
"Grandma, when is my fiancé coming to marry me?"
Back when Senju Hashirama first met Shangguan Hong, there was an age difference between them, but Hashirama was a child at heart and a utopian idealist.
The two quickly became friends. After they'd been drinking, Hashirama insisted on gambling with Shangguan Hong.
Unsurprisingly, the family's inherited luck at gambling meant Shangguan Hong won big. In the end, with nothing left to wager, Hashirama even bet Tsunade.
After making the bet, they wrote it down and went out to read it aloud on the street several times.
That left the Senju side with no way to go back on their word. They could only wait for the current Shangguan Yue to show up.
Tsunade had known since she was little that she had a fiancé. She had no interest in romance at all. Though she was unwilling, the engagement had been arranged by her grandfather, so she could only grit her teeth and accept it.
