Hungry wolves growled, wild bears roared, and spider silk wove the entire forest into a dense web. Every living creature dwelled in a world of mist and cobwebs. Only the undead could move freely.
This was Duskwood.
Duskwood was the largest forest under Stormwind City's rule, lying east of Westfall and west of Elwynn Forest.
It was a chaotic and sorrowful region. On paper, it belonged to the Alliance and stood under Stormwind City's protection, but it lay too far from that mighty human capital. With evil forces close by to the south and east, fear filled the land.
The region bordered Deadwind Pass.
Deadwind Pass was an uninhabited region, home to the world's tallest and most mysterious mage tower-Medivh's tower, also known as "Karazhan."
Karazhan was now occupied by the undead. Evil magical energy seeped from the Mage Tower, directly causing the desolation of Deadwind Pass.
Deadwind Pass stood empty.
Though Deadwind Pass lay on the border, the infiltration and corruption of Duskwood by its evil magic were far worse than anyone imagined.
The residents of Darkshire, the largest human town, believed that their once-perfect little home had been cursed. Undead crawled out of Tranquil Gardens Cemetery to the south and prowled the woods around town. Ogres had occupied Vogul Mountain to the southwest, large numbers of worgen had appeared in Brightwood to the north, Deadwind Pass had formed to the east, and undead had emerged within Darkshire's territory. Duskwood had now become one of the most dangerous regions in Alliance lands.
Magic had affected the weather, leaving every day shrouded in mist and lending the land a sinister, terrifying air. Gusts from the east carried the same foul stench that filled the air of Deadwind Pass.
