Shawn thought, If I wanted to be king of Stormwind City, would you agree to that too, King Varian? Even if you did, it would be pointless. I couldn't be king anyway!
So, everything people in power said was nonsense. Anyone who believed them was a fool.
But that was fine. It wouldn't stop Shawn from making a few requests that weren't too outrageous.
Right. Definitely not outrageous.

Shawn cleared his throat and said, "King Varian, I only have five requests... ahem, that's not too many, right?"
For once, the hot-tempered King Varian didn't explode. This was entirely because the main contradiction he currently faced was between "I am the real king" and "the king is already under the Black Dragon Princess's control." The contradiction between "King Varian's lousy temper" and "Shawn making so many requests" was secondary.
When necessary, compromises could be made on secondary contradictions. Anything to resolve the main one.
Besides, Shawn was no longer just some kid. Shandris Feathermoon stood behind him, and Jaina seemed to be on good terms with him too. Varian was counting on those two women to help him reclaim his throne, so offending them now wouldn't be wise.
Thus, King Varian put on a generous air and waved his hand. "Go ahead!"
Shawn held up his fingers and thought, If I'd known you'd be this accommodating, I would have used both hands. Now I've only got one hand, and I have to pick five out of my huge pile of must-haves. What a headache!
After some thought, Shawn folded down his little finger. "I'd like to be able to enter the Library in Stormwind City whenever I want and read the books kept there. Any books, including scriptures of the Holy Light, spellbooks, secret tomes, and so on."
