Break with Gul'dan

Orgrim was Durotan's chieftain and comrade-in-arms. Durotan's murder while resisting Gul'dan—and the subsequent destruction of the Frostwolf Clan—left Orgrim viewing Gul'dan as a betrayer who had led the Horde into ruin through Fel corruption. 28 33

Seeking to escape Gul'dan and Blackhand's rule, Orgrim led followers across the sea after discovering a map pointing to another continent. His intent was to find land where his people could survive rather than pursue conquest. 28 29

Landing at Azshara

Orgrim commanded the Horde landing at Azshara Beach. He ordered Shamans to cover the landing with fog and sent Ogres ahead to clear underwater obstacles, then personally led the charge with Doomhammer. 29

The landing force defeated the Sentinels and forced their retreat, but Tyrande's magic devastated Horde ships and threatened the troops on shore. Orgrim declined to pursue the retreating elves, choosing instead to preserve his remaining people. 30

Defiance and Captivity

When Gul'dan's envoy Agmar demanded that Orgrim prepare for Gul'dan's arrival, Orgrim rejected Gul'dan's authority and declared that he had led his people away to escape him permanently. He also protected one of his warriors when Agmar attempted to feed on him with Fel energy. 33

Gul'dan soon arrived in person, overpowered Orgrim without difficulty, and imprisoned him. Gul'dan then absorbed Orgrim's forces into his own army, using Orgrim's capture to force their obedience. 37

Alliance Against Gul'dan

Orgrim later sought Andy out to propose cooperation against Gul'dan, arguing that Gul'dan—not ordinary Orcs—was responsible for the war. He provided the Alliance with intelligence and deliberately staged weak resistance while guiding its forces toward Gul'dan's position. 79

At the decisive confrontation, Orgrim struck Gul'dan from behind with Doomhammer, breaking the bone spikes on the warlock's back. Following Gul'dan's defeat, Orgrim withdrew to Azshara's coast and rebuilt his clan in relative peace. 79 80

Ner'zhul's Control and Second Invasion

Grom and Kilrogg later captured Orgrim in his own city and took him through the Dark Portal to Draenor. Ner'zhul publicly condemned him for killing Gul'dan, but offered him “redemption through service” rather than execution. 116

Ner'zhul forced Orgrim to drink Mannoroth's blood, granting him immense power and binding him to Ner'zhul's will. Orgrim was ordered to lead Orc soldiers back into Azeroth and continue the invasion. 117

During the attack on Dalaran, Orgrim ignored Kilrogg's order to withdraw after the Eye of Dalaran was stolen. He instead continued the assault, openly denouncing Ner'zhul and Gul'dan as the Orcs' true traitors. 120

Final Campaign and Death

After breaking out of the Battle of Lordaeron, Orgrim led his depleted forces south through Dun Morogh. While attempting to break through a Dwarven interception, he shattered Magni's hammer and struck the Dwarf king down before escaping the arriving Alliance pursuit. 122

Cornered beneath Blackrock Mountain, Orgrim challenged Lothar to a duel. He broke Lothar's sword and landed the blow that fatally wounded him, but was then attacked by Andy and Turalyon. Exhausted and unable to resist, Orgrim was slain by Turalyon. In his final moments, the red glow left his eyes and he appeared relieved to be free of the demonic curse. 124

Orgrim is a tall, imposing Orc commonly seen carrying the massive Doomhammer. After consuming Mannoroth's blood, his eyes glow red; shortly before his death, that glow fades. 29 120 124

Personality

Orgrim is driven by a fierce belief that the Horde should survive with honor rather than serve warlocks and demons. He considers Gul'dan's murder of Durotan and the Horde's dependence on Fel power an unforgivable betrayal. 33

Although capable of ruthless violence, Orgrim initially seeks settlement and safety for his people rather than conquest. He refuses to pursue the elves after Azshara and repeatedly frames his rebellion against Gul'dan as an effort to protect his followers. 29 30 37

His defiance is paired with military pragmatism. He can cooperate with former enemies when it serves the larger goal of ending Gul'dan's rule, but later becomes increasingly desperate and bloodthirsty while fleeing the Alliance under Ner'zhul's influence. 79 122
